Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the central problem—your neighbours play music at night—and explain that it disrupts your studying and sleep, so the main situation is relevant to the task. However, the response does not fully address the required letter purpose: it gives no clear request for what the neighbours should do, such as lowering the volume or stopping music after a certain time. The explanation of your difficulties is also limited; the reference to “light issues” is unclear and does not explain how the noise affects your sleep. To develop the response, state the requested action directly and add specific details about the impact on your exam preparation and rest. A suitable closing request would make your purpose clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The ideas are connected to one main situation, and the reader can follow the basic sequence from the neighbours’ music to its effect on your studies. However, the response is presented as one long, loosely connected paragraph, with little clear progression between explaining the problem, describing its effects, and making a request. Linking phrases such as “that’s why” and “due to this” are repeated, and some connections are difficult to follow, particularly the move from noise to “light issues.” Organise the letter into short paragraphs for the problem, its consequences, and your requested action. Clear sentence boundaries and more precise links between ideas would make the message easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the main topic, including “exams,” “neighbours,” “music,” and “study.” There are also attempts to express impact through phrases such as “disturbed” and “noise pollution.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning harder to understand: “got passed,” “makes me discomfort,” and “night time” are examples. Spelling errors such as “weak,” “studing,” and “distrubed” also reduce clarity. Build a more precise set of phrases for noise and its effects, such as “loud music,” “interrupts my concentration,” and “prevents me from sleeping,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to combine ideas in longer sentences, for example when explaining that the music affects your concentration, but sentence structures are limited and frequently inaccurate. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in “I am studying in university,” “I want to be prepared,” and “it makes me discomfort.” Articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries also need attention; the opening runs several ideas together without full stops or capitalisation, making it difficult to process. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then join related ideas with accurate clauses. For example: “I have exams next week, and the music makes it difficult for me to concentrate.” This would improve control while preserving your meaning.
