Student answer (Band 5.5)

Hello my new neighbours,

Hopefully you are great and enjoying your new house at a new place. We are happy you are our new neighbours.

As you guys are loved to have a party at your house with high music and I think its a good thing to enjoy your life in any way, but your high music disturb others neighbours. As a neighbour we dont want to disturb you regarding the party or high music.

I'm the student of the univeristy and studying the chemical engr. As so far, upcoming weeks there my exam and I have to prepare my self with the stuff. Your high music just disturb me during my prepartion of exam. I request you to enjoy your party with medium music so you can enjoy by your self without disturbing someone.

If you guys are not controlling your self regarding party, then I have to take action against you through contacting your owner of your house. So hopefully you find this letter in a positive way instead of negative way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the main situation and make a clear request: you explain that loud music during parties is disturbing you while you prepare for university examinations, and ask the neighbours to keep the volume moderate. You also state a possible next step—contacting the landlord—so the reader understands your concern. However, the task is only partly developed: the effect on your sleep, which is part of the situation, is not explained, and the request could be more specific, such as asking them to lower the volume after a particular time. The warning about taking action also makes the tone less tactful than is usually effective in a neighbourly letter. Develop the consequences and make the requested action clear and courteous.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable sequence: a greeting, an explanation of the noise, details about your studies, and a proposed response. Paragraphing helps separate these points, and phrases such as “As so far” and “So hopefully” attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is not always smooth: the opening spends time welcoming the neighbours before the problem is introduced, and the transition from the request to the threat of contacting the landlord is abrupt. Some connections are unclear or repetitive, particularly the repeated references to “high music” and “party.” Use more direct topic sentences and clearer links between the noise, its effects, and your request; a conventional greeting and closing would also make the letter easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the basic issue, including “party,” “music,” “neighbours,” “student,” and “exam.” There are also attempts to express a considerate tone, such as “enjoy your life” and “in a positive way.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the message awkward: “high music” is not natural for loud music, and “enjoy by your self” does not express the intended meaning clearly. Spelling errors such as “univeristy,” “engr,” and “prepartion” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of natural phrases for noise complaints and requests, and check spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “I'm the student of the univeristy and studying the chemical engr.” and the conditional sentence beginning “If you guys are not controlling your self…”. However, the longer structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the letter difficult to read. Examples include “As you guys are loved to have a party,” “your high music disturb,” and “there my exam,” which show problems with verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. Articles and punctuation also need attention, as in “I'm the student” and the missing space after “neighbours.” Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, then combine them using simple clauses before attempting more complex forms.
