Student answer (Band 5.0)
dear sir,
i am writing to express my dissatisfaction with recently shifted neighbours to my next house.i have no idea about the people's nature but, they are illmanured. initially, i would like to tell my issue with next door neighbours because of loud music voices from their house.it creates irritation and problem for my studies.i can not concentrate on studies while i have exam next week.
Additionally, this issue becomes a head ache situation for me.i will badly effect on my result when i can not study well.
Futhermore,i knocked their door several time to switch off it but they do not even bother it.it also creates a disturbing environment for the other residentials of the colony.
i have requested you to take a look on my request as soon as possilble.i looking forward to your answer.
Thanks and regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the central problem—neighbours playing loud music—and explain that it disrupts your studying before an exam and may affect your result. You also mention having knocked on their door and ask the recipient to respond, so the purpose is partly clear. However, the request is addressed to “sir” without explaining who this person is, and the action you want is not stated directly: specify that the neighbours should lower or stop the music at night. The explanation of the impact is brief, and the letter does not clearly describe when or how often the noise occurs. The response is also 11 words below the required minimum, leaving the task only partially developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The ideas follow a generally understandable order: you introduce the neighbours, describe the noise, explain its effect, mention trying to speak to them, and make a request. Connectors such as “Additionally” and “Furthermore” help signal added points. However, the response is presented as one continuous block, so the stages of the letter are not clearly separated into paragraphs. Some links feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is occasionally unclear—for example, “it also creates a disturbing environment” does not specify whether “it” means the music or your request. Use paragraphs for the problem, its effects and your requested action, and make references explicit to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “loud music,” “concentrate,” “irritation,” and “disturbing environment,” which makes the main concern understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make the letter less natural. “Recently shifted neighbours” is not the usual expression for people who have moved in, while “illmanured” does not convey the intended meaning clearly. “Head ache situation” and “music voices” are also awkward. Spelling and word forms such as “Futhermore” and “residentials” further reduce precision. Build a small set of accurate phrases for noise complaints, such as “late-night noise,” “disrupt my revision,” and “reduce the volume.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You communicate the basic message using mostly simple sentence patterns, and there are attempts to connect clauses, as in “I can not concentrate on studies while I have exam next week.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent. Articles and possessives are often missing (“my studies,” “an exam”), and verb forms are faulty in “I looking forward to your answer” and “I will badly effect on my result.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention: several sentences run together after full stops, and capitalisation is inconsistent. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the general complaint, but they make the letter less clear and natural. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled clauses explaining cause and effect.
