Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear neighbours,
I am writing to you about noise pollution.
Firstly, I live near your house. You are my new neighbours. I see that, you play music late at night. You make a noise every time. Sorrounding people disturb with your voice. Some people come back to work they can't feel relax by music. Therefore, this is so critical situation.
Secondly, I am disturb too much . When I study and sleep then music is effecting on my lecture preparation. I can't easily concentrate to learning anything. My mind attention to music. So I have mentally disturbed. On other hand when I go to bed for sleep then I can't take relaxation sleep. Because loud speaker is disturbing me.
Finally, you should manage your time table. You should keep low music sound. You don't make noise. It is bad habit when you awake late night. They also create irritation for society members.
Your faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you identify late-night music as the problem, explain that it disrupts your studying and sleep, and ask the neighbours to reduce the volume and manage when they play music. The personal impact is clearest in “I can't easily concentrate” and “I can't take relaxation sleep.” However, some details are less fully explained: the comments about other residents and people returning from work are broad and do not add much to your own request. Make the letter more persuasive by explaining specifically how the noise affects exam preparation and by stating a clear, polite request, such as asking them to keep the music low or turn it off after a particular time.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable overall structure, with an opening, paragraphs introduced by “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Finally,” and a closing. This helps the reader follow the problem, its effects, and your requested action. However, the sequencing is somewhat mechanical, and some links between ideas are unclear. For example, “Some people come back to work they can't feel relax by music” is difficult to connect to your main concern, while “On other hand” does not clearly signal the contrast intended. Group the effects on your studies and sleep together, then make the request in a separate final paragraph. Use linking phrases only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “noise pollution,” “late at night,” “concentrate,” and “loud speaker,” so the reader can identify the main concern. There are also attempts to express impact, such as “mentally disturbed” and “irritation for society members.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, and spelling errors such as “Sorrounding” make the letter less clear. Phrases like “take relaxation sleep” and “manage your time table” do not express your meaning naturally. Build a more precise range around noise, study, and sleep, and check spelling and common word combinations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both short statements and longer sentences, including “When I study and sleep then music is effecting on my lecture preparation,” which shows an effort to explain cause and effect. However, some sentence structures and verb forms are inaccurate, and these sometimes make the meaning harder to follow. For example, “I am disturb too much” and “I can't feel relax” need correct verb forms, while “when I study and sleep then” has an awkward clause structure. There are also issues with articles and punctuation, such as the comma in “I see that, you play.” Practise forming clear sentences with “because,” “when,” and “so,” and check subject–verb patterns and verb forms.
