Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hi Sumit,
I hope everything is going great and most welcome in our society. I wanted to tell you that I am having trouble while studying for last two and my biggest distraction is loud music which is coming from your house.
Although I love music and I do not mind if somebody wants to listen, the thing is next week I have my final exams I really want to score good for my finals. Somehow I cannot focus because music is my weakest point whenever my ears listens up something, I automatically gets distracted. Therefore,it is effecting my studies and I don't want to score low because of heaing music.
Lastly, it is my humble request if could lower the volume of the music moreover I have low base speaker and it's not in my use,may be you can have a look on them and it won't stop you to enjoy the music.
Thank you so much for your understanding.
Ria

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify late, loud music from the neighbours’ home, explain that it distracts you while preparing for final exams, and ask them to lower the volume. The polite, direct purpose is clear, and the reference to your exams gives the request a relevant reason. Some details, however, are less fully explained: “for last two” does not make clear how long the problem has been happening, and the suggestion about a “low base speaker” is confusing rather than a clear action the neighbours can take. To develop the letter further, specify the hours when the music is disturbing you and make one practical request, such as keeping the volume low after a particular time.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, with a greeting, an explanation of the problem, a request, and a courteous closing. The ideas generally progress from the noise to its effect on your studies and then to the action you want. However, some linking is mechanical or unclear: “Although” introduces a contrast that is not fully developed, while “Lastly” and “moreover” do not connect the request and speaker suggestion smoothly. The long middle paragraph also combines several points, making the explanation harder to follow. Use clearer paragraphing for the problem, its impact, and your request, and connect each idea directly—for example, explain that the music continues late at night and therefore interrupts both revision and sleep.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main concern, including “distraction,” “focus,” “final exams,” and “lower the volume.” The tone is appropriately polite, and phrases such as “my humble request” show an attempt to use more formal language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “most welcome in our society,” “score good,” and “my weakest point” for describing sensitivity to music. Spelling errors such as “effecting” and “heaing” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural, precise expressions rather than translating phrases literally: for instance, say that the noise “is affecting my concentration” and that you hope to “do well in my exams.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a concessive opening with “Although” and a reason introduced by “because.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors make parts of the letter awkward or unclear. Examples include “for last two,” “whenever my ears listens,” and “I automatically gets distracted,” where tense, agreement, or sentence construction needs attention. The request “if could lower the volume” is also missing a clear subject. Check subject–verb agreement and make sure each clause has a complete subject and verb. For example: “Whenever I hear music, I automatically get distracted,” and “I would be grateful if you could lower the volume.”
