Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to inform you that I am living in the flat near your house and soon my exams will start in upcoming days.
Firstly, I want to tell you about my concerns regarding problem creating by you by playing music late at night. Furthermore, the sound is very loud and vibrating which cause noise disturbances in our flat too.
Moreover, it creates negative impacts on my study and sleep because of this high pitched sound, I am unable to focus on my studies. Additionally, I usually prefer to study late at night and due to high volume songs I can not put my full attention on my subjects. Thus, I feel worried all the time because I want to achieved my desire score in examinations.
In addition to this, I want to request you that you should avoid to play songs in late hours. If you want to listen to music please prefer to play inside your room with low volume that is only audible to you.
I hope you would consider my request and you would take steps to resolve this problem.
I am looking forward to your response.
Kind regards,
Nosheen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you explain that the neighbours play loud music late at night, describe how it disrupts your studying and sleep, and ask them to reduce the volume or listen inside their room. The impact is supported with relevant details, such as being unable to focus and wanting to achieve your desired examination score. The purpose and polite request remain clear throughout. To develop the response further, make the consequences of the noise more specific—for example, explain how often it happens or how it affects your rest before an exam. The request could also be more precise about acceptable quiet hours. Overall, the task is fully addressed, although some supporting ideas could be extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression from introducing the situation, to explaining its effects, and then making a request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Additionally,” and “Thus” make relationships between ideas easy to follow. The closing is also appropriate for a polite letter. At times, however, the transitions feel somewhat formulaic, and several sentences repeat the same point about loud music affecting concentration. For stronger cohesion, combine closely related effects and use more varied referencing, such as “This disturbance” or “The noise,” rather than repeatedly restating the issue. The overall organisation is logical and clear, with some room for more flexible linking.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to explain the problem and its effects, including “noise disturbances,” “high pitched sound,” “full attention,” and “resolve this problem.” These choices make your meaning clear, and the polite language suits the purpose of the letter. Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, however: “negative impacts on my study and sleep” and “desire score” do not express the ideas idiomatically. “Vibrating” is also not the clearest description of the sound’s effect. Aim to use natural collocations and accurate word forms, such as “disrupts my studies and sleep” and “the score I hope to achieve.” This would make the vocabulary more precise while retaining your clear message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because of this high pitched sound” and a conditional request beginning “If you want to listen to music.” The message remains understandable, and the letter includes a range of sentence purposes. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “which cause noise disturbances” should use a verb agreeing with “sound,” while “I want to achieved” needs the base form after “want to.” The sentence beginning “Moreover, it creates negative impacts…” also joins ideas awkwardly and would be clearer if divided or restructured. Review these patterns and check punctuation around longer sentences to improve accuracy.
