Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hi Jack,

I hope your are doing good and your moving went smooth.I am living to your next door, i am writing this to to express my discomforst about your late night music. I know you move in with your old freind and both of you trying to enjoy each other's company. I am studing medical and my exams are coming soon. I tried to cover my schedule late till night but but because of loud music from your apartment i am not able concentrate on my studies, I know this thing have nothing to do with you , but i want your a little consideration. We can make a schedule that will work for both of us, like you can turn on your music around 7 or 8 pm ,by that time i acn try to do some housechores, but requesting you to turn it off by 10 pm so that i can study. Hope this sound good to you and looking forward for your reply.

yours sincerely,

Harman.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you identify the late-night music, explain that it prevents you from concentrating and affects your sleep, and request that it stop by 10 p.m. The proposed compromise—music earlier in the evening while you do housework—also makes the request practical and considerate. The purpose and polite tone remain clear throughout, and the details about your upcoming medical exams explain why the issue matters now. To make the response even more fully developed, explain the effect on your sleep more explicitly and clarify how the suggested schedule would work for both neighbours. Overall, the relevant ideas are extended and supported, although a few are stated briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a sensible progression from greeting and context to the problem, its effect, and a proposed solution. Phrases such as “I am writing this to express” and “Hope this sound good to you” help signal your purpose and closing. However, nearly all the content is placed in one long paragraph, so the stages of the message are not visually distinct. Some connections are also awkward or repetitive, as in “but but because of loud music,” and the relationship between doing housework at 7 or 8 and asking for quiet by 10 could be clearer. Use separate paragraphs for the problem and request, and connect ideas with simpler, more precise transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary that is relevant to a neighbourly request, including “discomfort,” “consideration,” “schedule,” and “concentrate on my studies.” These choices communicate the main message, and the tone is generally appropriate. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural phrases reduce accuracy, for example “discomforst,” “studing,” “doing good,” and “turn on your music.” Some wording is also repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “music” and “study.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “the loud music is disturbing my sleep” or “keep the volume down.” This would make the letter sound clearer and more polished without changing its friendly tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including the explanation beginning “I tried to cover my schedule late till night but…” and the suggestion introduced by “so that.” The reader can generally follow your meaning, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. Examples include “your are” for “you are,” “I am living to your next door,” “both of you trying,” and “this thing have nothing to do with you.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention: several complete ideas run together, and the final request is attached to a long sentence. Practise subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence punctuation, then check each sentence for a clear subject and main verb.
