Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Neighbour,

I understand you are settling in well in your home. I just want highlight the situation that the lound music you were playing cause a significant disturbance due to which, I am unable to concentrate in my appartment.

Since you moved into the neighbourhood, I have noticed that music is frequently played at a high volume, especially during night. I understand that, music is a part of everyday life for enjoyment and fun, the noise has becoming quite disturbing.

I am currently preparing some of my important exams, and I need a quite environment to concentrate on my studies. Unfortunately, loud music affecting my studies also if this situation continues it will affect my studies. In result, may be I could lose marks in my exam.

I would really appretiate it if you could lower the volume, especially after 10 P.M, so I can tudy peacefully. I would be really helpful if you lower the music volumne during late night.

Thankyou for your understanding and cooperation. I hope we can make friendly relationship as neighbours.

Best Regards,

Nancy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three parts of the task: you identify loud music late at night, explain that it disrupts exam preparation and sleep, and request that the volume be lowered, especially after 10 p.m. The purpose and polite position are clear throughout, and the request is appropriate for a neighbour. The explanation of the impact is relevant, particularly the concern that your exam results may suffer, though this point could be developed more specifically—for example, by explaining how the noise interrupts concentration or prevents you from sleeping. The reference to sleep is implied by the prompt but is not clearly stated in your letter. More precise development of these effects would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens politely, describes the noise, explains its effect on your studies, and ends with a request and courteous closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “Since you moved into the neighbourhood” and “Unfortunately” signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are repetitive or awkward. The effect on your studies is stated twice in close succession, and “In result” does not link the consequence naturally. The final request also repeats the same idea in two sentences. This is coherent overall, but more concise progression and clearer linking between cause and consequence would make the cohesion more flexible and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough relevant vocabulary to communicate the situation, including “high volume,” “disturbance,” “concentrate,” and “cooperation.” The tone is generally suitable for a polite letter. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “lound,” “appartment,” “appretiate,” “tudy,” and “volumne” should be corrected. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “a quite environment” and “the noise has becoming quite disturbing.” Repetition of “music,” “studies,” and “lower” further limits flexibility. Aim to use accurate collocations such as “quiet environment,” “disrupt my revision,” and “reduce the volume,” while checking spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional request with “if you could lower the volume” and a time clause beginning “Since you moved into the neighbourhood.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction and verb forms. For example, “I just want highlight” needs an infinitive marker, “the music … cause” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “the noise has becoming” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “Unfortunately, loud music affecting my studies” is also missing a finite verb, while “if this situation continues it will affect my studies” needs clearer punctuation and avoids repeating the same idea. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the letter.
