Student answer (Band 7.0)
Zoos must be shut down as it is no longer needed to keep the animals in the zoos because it takes away the freedom of these innocent beings . I strongly oppose this viewpoint as zoos are considered essential for saving the endangered species as well as children can gather a lot of useful information when visiting zoos.
Zoos play a vital role in protecting the animals that are on their verge of extinction. Zoos owners provide natural habitat, proper meals to these animals and keeping them safe from other animals that may be a danger to them. For example; Pandas population has been declined, only few are saved due to the efforts one of the zoos in China. Therefore, zoos are necessary in order to provide protection to the animals from variety of dangers.
Moreover, Zoos act as a pool of knowledge for the children as they learn about different animals through real visuals. They find it fascinating which helps them in quick understanding of their eating habits and their behavior. For instant; Many reputed schools organize compulsory zoo trips for the kids in order to make the learning fun. Hence, zoos should be beneficial for the younger generation as it teaches a variety of useful information.
In conclusion, although zoos do not allow animals to live freely as it hinders their way of living to some extent. However, I believe zoos must not be closed as its benefits are more than its demerits. It provides a shield for the animals in danger and may be highly useful for the kids in their learning phase as zoos act a hub of information about variety of animals of those as well who do not even exist.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided two main supporting arguments: conservation of endangered species and educational value. While the ideas are relevant, they could be further developed with more specific evidence. For instance, the example of the Panda is a good start, but it lacks detail regarding how the zoo specifically facilitated the population recovery. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are fully explained to demonstrate a deeper level of critical thinking regarding the complexities of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the use of 'those as well who do not even exist' in the final sentence, which is slightly ambiguous. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that pronouns and references clearly point back to their intended antecedents.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'extinction', 'natural habitat', and 'fascinating'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Zoos owners' instead of 'Zoo owners' or 'on their verge of extinction' instead of 'on the verge of extinction'. Additionally, 'For instant' is an incorrect collocation for 'For instance'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over vocabulary. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated collocations and idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the zoos', 'the Pandas population') and subject-verb agreement ('Zoos owners provide', 'Pandas population has been declined'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, such as the use of a semicolon after 'For example' instead of a comma. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout. To achieve a higher band, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent use of articles and verb tenses.
