Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, many people think that zoos are no longer necessary and should be closed. i agree with this opinion because animals should live in their natural habitats. and modern technology allows people to learn about animal without visiting a zoo.
First and foremost, after thinking about animals, I come with the idea that keeping animals in cages may affect their physical and mantel health. Wild animals need large spaces to move, hunt, and to interact with animal from their own species. As well as animal can eat whatever they want from the nature in may put better effect on their health. However, zoos cannot provide an environment like their natural habitat, as a result, animals experienced stress and behave different from as they would in the wild. For example, they may aggressive sometime and can hurt people.
Secondly, people can now learn about animals from the documentaries, online videos, and wildlife parks. These resources provide all information without keeping animals in captivity. For instance, there are a number of movies and books from individuals can get knowledge about animals. furthermore, there are a numerous discovery channels on TV and internet where people can get a lot about them. Moreover, many organizations protect endangered animals in their natural habitats which is better way to support conservation.
In conclusion, I believe that traditional zoos should be closed because animals deserve to live freely in nature and organizations should provide wildlife conservation, education programs to while allows people learn about animals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding animal welfare and the availability of alternative educational resources are relevant and logically developed. However, the response falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which impacts the overall development of the ideas. While the main points are clear, they could have been expanded with more depth or specific examples to fully meet the requirements of a Band 7. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, but the overall brevity prevents a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. The use of cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by minor grammatical errors, such as 'from individuals can get knowledge'. While the logical progression is generally sound, the cohesion could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the ideas follow a logical sequence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'natural habitats', 'captivity', and 'endangered animals'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'mantel health' (mental health) and 'may put better effect on their health'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Improving word choice and addressing spelling errors would enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('animals experienced stress'), article usage, and sentence fragments ('and to interact with animal from their own species'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of periods and capitalization. These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. A more careful review of basic grammar rules would be beneficial.
