Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, some people believe that there is no need to kept animals in zoos, therefore zoos should be closed permanently. I am completely disagree with this opinion because animals are the part of our nature and zoos are best places to display them to everyone.

Firstly, some animal species are near to extinct such as white tigers, cobra snakes, and blue horses, they need extra care and perfect environment, which can be possible in designated areas like zoos. For instant, zoo organization develop new breeding process to protect rare animals. Without all this facilities some animals can be extinct within 10 years. Eventually, zoos act as a protection and provide safe environment for survive.

Moreover, wild animals are the beautiful creation of the nature, they usually find in a dense forests and unpopulated lands which is far away from the humans reach. However, zoos can help to break the boundaries between nature and human beings, they feel more connected to the nature and wild animals. Furthermore, some big zoos are kept large number of rare wilds animals, which attract tourists from all over the world, not only it help to generate economical benefits but also zoos can be represent the area around the globe.

To sum up, although some zoos abuse animals for there needs and to attract the tourists, people can enjoy the beautiful creatures to close while visiting zoos as well as some dangerous species can get extra care and perfect breeding set-up to save the population to extinct. Ultimately, government should watch these activities closely and maintain good environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding conservation and education are relevant, though the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the mention of 'blue horses' is factually confusing and weakens the argument. The ideas are generally supported, but the explanation of how zoos 'break the boundaries' between humans and nature is a bit vague. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, real-world examples of successful conservation programs rather than general statements. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, though it introduces a new point about government regulation that was not previously discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'To sum up' to guide the reader. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition 'Eventually, zoos act as a protection' is slightly awkward in context. Referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel disconnected due to comma splices, such as '...near to extinct such as white tigers, cobra snakes, and blue horses, they need extra care...'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring better sentence-level cohesion would improve the score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. You use some relevant terms like 'extinct', 'breeding process', and 'economical benefits', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'kept animals' instead of 'keeping animals' and 'for survive' instead of 'for survival'. Additionally, the phrase 'blue horses' is likely a misuse of vocabulary or a factual error. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. The range is sufficient to communicate your ideas, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('some big zoos are kept' instead of 'keep'), incorrect verb forms ('no need to kept'), and punctuation errors, particularly comma splices. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb tense consistency to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
