Student answer (Band 6.5)

I totally agree that caging animals in zoos is no longer needed and this practice should be closed. Now, animals can freely live in jungles and keeping them in zoos to showcase to the public just for their entertainment is not appreciated by people as well.

Keeping them in zoos limit their freedom and natural growth while living in the forests gives them a free life and living with another animals promotes healthy lifestyle among them which ultimately leads to natural life balance. Living with other animals promotes a good lifestyle and natural growth among them as well. caging animals limit their natural growth and sometimes lead to depression among the animals, and they get mad when they see people, sometimes lead to attack on human life by them as well.

When animal lives in an open area, they can eat natural food, live free, do physical activities in the open area, leading to natural habitat which helps in maintaining good eco-cycle and environment. When animals live in a zoo, this discourages their natural growth and impacts their life expectancy also. Animals when live free gives birth to their child in a natural way which helps in balancing natural life cycle on earth.

Hence, in my opinion keeping animals in a zoo is no longer needed and they should be closed. Instead, creating a clean forest area, providing them food in the area, looking after their health under surveillance should be promoted which is very essential to maintain the natural living on earth in balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating an agreement with the closure of zoos. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the second and third paragraphs both focus on the negative impacts of captivity on animal health and natural behavior without introducing distinct, well-supported arguments. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on specific points, such as the role of modern conservation or the ethical implications of animal rights, rather than restating the same points about 'natural growth' and 'freedom' multiple times. The conclusion introduces a new idea about 'creating a clean forest area' which is a good attempt at a solution, but it lacks depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and finally the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'When animal lives' and 'When animals live' are used repeatedly to start sentences, which limits the flow. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in contrast' to better connect your ideas and improve the overall logical flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on simple, repetitive terms such as 'natural growth,' 'good lifestyle,' and 'free life.' While these words communicate your meaning clearly, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'they get mad' (which is informal) and 'promote a healthy lifestyle among them.' To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'conservation,' 'captivity,' 'psychological well-being,' or 'biodiversity.'

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect clarity. For example, 'caging animals limit their natural growth' should be 'cages animals' or 'caging animals limits' (subject-verb agreement). There are also issues with articles and pluralization, such as 'living with another animals' (should be 'other animals') and 'When animal lives' (should be 'When animals live'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles would significantly improve your accuracy.
