Student answer (Band 6.5)

Zoos are very important for today’s world for different type of animals for their survival. There are animals & birds which were used to see in different parts of worlds are now disappeared.

Zoos plays very important part for saving different animals species & the best example is the Panda. The panda was almost disappeared from the planet & remained in hundreds only. China has decided to save panda & started different type of actions to preserve this the rarest animal from vanishing completely. They save them in zoos, breed them, increase their numbers significantly in recent years. If they did not take care of them, we would definitely reading about Panda in books like we know only about dinosaurs were existed in past.

Zoos plays very important part for getting information about animals & seeing them with our naked eyes. Specially kids always like to visit zoos to see animals which they saw in television and cannot experience them in their natural environments like lions, elephants, crocodiles etc which most dangerous in their natural environment. Every country has multiple zoos & maintained by their governments. Some countries have zoos like with boundary walls & some have big zoos to provide the animals like their natural jungle environment like Safari in China, Middle East & specifically in South Aftica. I have visited well maintained and very big zoo in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates where i have seen animals like lion, cheetah & penguin which i have never seen before.

Closing zoos is not a good idea. It will not only finish kids visiting areas but also very discouraging in different type of animals species preservation. Right now there are multiple animals are preserved in zoos only which now not existing in different parts of the world like Panda. Zoos give opportunity to see animals from different parts of the world in one well maintained area by governments.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have clearly stated your position against closing zoos and provided relevant arguments, such as species preservation and educational value. The example of the Panda is well-chosen and supports your argument effectively. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat repetitive, and the response lacks a more sophisticated exploration of the counter-arguments or the complexities of animal welfare. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating the same general benefits of zoos. Your position remains clear throughout the essay, which is a positive aspect of your writing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some basic cohesive devices, such as 'The best example is' and 'Not only... but also', to connect your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'which most dangerous in their natural environment', where the subject is missing. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient vocabulary to convey your meaning, using terms like 'preservation', 'significantly', and 'environment'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'which were used to see' instead of 'which we used to see' and 'finish kids visiting areas' instead of 'end opportunities for children to visit'. Some phrasing is also repetitive, particularly the use of 'different type of'. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise vocabulary to describe the benefits and drawbacks of zoos, rather than relying on general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Zoos plays' instead of 'Zoos play'), missing articles ('the Panda' vs 'pandas'), and awkward sentence construction ('which most dangerous in their natural environment'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the flow of your writing. To progress, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
