Student answer (Band 5.5)

Zoos are the source of entertainment, and many tourists, children love to visit zoos, specially during holiday season. In zoos we have all different types of animals which is uncommon to spot on daily basis, but nowadays zoos are not being appreciated and the business are also gradually going down. But also in zoos animals are not getting the life they deserve because they are not out in the wild. So in this essay we will be discussing the advantages and disadvantages of having animals kept in zoos or zoos should be closed.

Firstly, having zoos filled with animals can create lot of tourist attraction and happiness towards people and childrens, and the advantage of having animal in the zoos can create impact on the economy on the cities as it distribute to the famous tourist attraction spots for the city and animals can be treated and fed well under the supervision.

Moreover, animals sometimes are not really happy inside the zoos as they want to be out in the wild, away from the disturbance and crowd from the people in the zoo, animals are kept in the cage which is obviously not a home for them as they want to be free and they really deserves to be free in the wild with other animals for their own kinds.

In conclusion, animals should not be the source of entertainment for the humans as it destroys the animals freedom and any source of happiness, as they must be feeling caged and tide for their lives. In my experiences and knowledge every living creature should be having the freedom of living their own lives freely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt but lacks a clear, consistent position. While you mention both advantages and disadvantages, the essay does not explicitly state whether you agree or disagree with the statement that zoos should be closed. The ideas are somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding animal welfare, and the development is limited. To improve, ensure you take a firm stance in the introduction and provide more nuanced, well-supported arguments for each side of the debate rather than simply stating that animals should be free.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'In conclusion'). The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed; for instance, the transition between the economic benefits of zoos and the welfare concerns could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow would benefit from more sophisticated linking words and better integration of supporting evidence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'happiness', 'famous', and 'good'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'distribute to the famous tourist attraction spots' and 'tide for their lives', which hinder clarity. To reach a higher band, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to animal conservation and tourism, rather than relying on general, everyday language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the business are also gradually going down' (subject-verb agreement), 'create lot of tourist attraction' (missing article), and 'childrens' (incorrect pluralization). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are run-on or lack necessary commas. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and plural forms.
