Student answer (Band 6.0)

Every person in this world should enjoy his own freedom, so do animals. The animals deserve to live their lives with freedom, than to be kept in zoos. Therefore, I completely agree with the statements that we no longer need to have animals kept in the zoos, so zoos should be closed.

Animals are the beautiful creatures and they deserve to be lived a free life. Therefore, the zoos in which they are kept should be closed. This is because, it has so many disadvantages that are affecting animals habitat. For instance, when an animal is kept in the zoo, it is supposed to follow its master. The masters always torture animals to learn activities for human attention. Additionally, they get beaten up by their master and tend to stay scared.

Moreover, this action of keeping animals in zoos is affecting food-chain. It has been seen that the animals who are kept in the zoos are aggressive and irritated. They always follow their master and tend to perform activities such as dance or stunts for the viewers satisfaction. However, it has a negative impact on their population and the habitat. For example, the population of animals are gradually decreasing. Similarly, the counting of tiger is continuously decreasing with time.

Therefore, I believe that animals should not be kept in the zoos for just views satisfaction. It has a harsh effect on the wildlife. Moreover, it affects their sexual life and results in less number of animals in the forests

In conclusion, there is no such justification in the support for the zoos. However, there should be a complete restriction on animal hostages, it means the zoos should be closed fully. The animals should be sent back to the forests so that they can contribute to the nature.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of closing zoos. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. While you mention animal welfare and the food chain, the arguments are generalized and lack specific, well-explained examples. For instance, the claim that 'masters always torture animals' is a sweeping generalization that lacks nuance or evidence. To improve, focus on providing more balanced, logical arguments—such as the role of modern zoos in conservation versus the ethical concerns of captivity—rather than relying on emotional, repetitive statements about 'torture' and 'masters'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly unnatural. Phrases like 'Therefore' and 'Moreover' are used frequently, sometimes at the start of almost every sentence, which makes the flow feel repetitive. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the transition between the food chain argument and the mention of 'tiger counting'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'beautiful creatures', 'torture', and 'masters', which are somewhat informal or imprecise in this context. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'animal hostages' and 'views satisfaction'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated, topic-specific vocabulary related to wildlife conservation, ethics, and biology, and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the population of animals are', 'the counting of tiger is'), article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'deserve to be lived a free life'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound.
