Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is no requirement for the animals to be kept in zoological parks, All zoological parks should be shut down. This essay will discuss the reasons why i disagree on this.
To be honest, zoos being closed will create a significant risks for humans as wild animals such as lions, wolves, tigers and bears might search for food in nearby communities which can result in death of individuals. Also it can result to low rate of employment. For example, zoologists will be unemployed if there is no zoo for animals to be kept. In addition, without zoos some animals like penguins and kangaroos will be in extinction as there will be death of the animals leading to a decline in the species. To illustrate that, penguins can be found only in Antarctica due to the cold environment but if is constant loss of life of the animals, they will cease to exist.
Also, zoos are popular tourist attractions that draws visitors for around the world thereby boosting the local economy by increasing revenue for nearby businesses. For instance, my father has a restaurant beside Owerri National Zoo park, tourist purchase their meal there whenever the visit the zoo and it helps my father to take care of the family’s needs.
In conclusion, I believe animals should be kept in the zoo as it would prevent the shutdown of the animal park. Overall, it would prevent extinction of a particular species, decrease unemployment, increase tourism, reduce risk of humans be a source of food to animals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding economic benefits and conservation are relevant, though the point about wild animals searching for food in communities if zoos close is logically weak and somewhat hyperbolic. The ideas are generally supported, but the development could be more sophisticated. For instance, the link between closing zoos and the extinction of specific species like penguins is not well-explained, as zoos are not the primary habitat for these animals. To improve, ensure that your arguments are grounded in realistic scenarios and provide more nuanced explanations for your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'To illustrate that,' 'Also,' and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the transition between the risk of human death and the economic impact. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'zoological parks' and 'extinction,' but the range is somewhat limited. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'tourist purchase their meal' (should be 'tourists purchase') and 'risk of humans be a source of food' (awkward phrasing). To improve, work on using more precise collocations and expanding your range of academic vocabulary to avoid repetitive phrasing like 'animals' and 'zoos'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('tourist purchase'), article usage ('the extinction'), and sentence construction ('if is constant loss of life'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and comma splices. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining complex sentence structures will help improve your score in this criterion.
