Student answer (Band 5.5)

Social activist who believe in freedom for all often have opinion that animals also deserves to be live freely instead in Zoo. I am agree to this. Below essay will discuss my views in detail with reasons.

To begin with, I firmly believe that every life on a earth has right to live freely as they want without any restrictions but one thing we should never forget: in our society humans are also living, unlike animals they know their limitation and how to behave. While animal can't think and behave like human, If they are allowed freely to go anywhere they want, they can easily harm anyone, there are possibility of lot of accidental events where they can attack someone when they are hungry or sometime out of fear. People will tend to live in fear all the time. Keeping them in Zoo will good for humans that they can get a chance to see them without any fear and will maintain balance in society but from the animals perspective I don't think we are treating them in right manner.

On the other hand we can have dedicated area or place which government should declare as restricted zone for humans as forest reserve area where animals have can freely stay within the range of conservative area without human's disturbance. For instance, in my home town we have special nation reserve park for animals called as " Sasan Gir ". Government is managing whole conservative park.

In my views instead of keeping animals in zoo we should keep them in special dedicated zone for them and people should allow to visit that park but with government permission only.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, although the argument is somewhat contradictory. You initially agree that zoos should be closed, but then argue that keeping animals in zoos is 'good for humans' to see them safely. The development of ideas is limited; while you mention the need for restricted zones, the explanation of why zoos specifically should be closed is not fully explored. To improve, ensure your position remains consistent throughout the essay and provide more detailed reasoning for your stance rather than shifting focus to alternative solutions like forest reserves.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the transition 'While animal can't think...'. Some sentences are disjointed, and the logical flow between the idea of closing zoos and the suggestion of forest reserves could be smoother. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs needs more careful linking to ensure the argument develops logically rather than jumping between points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'conservative area' instead of 'conservation area' and 'nation reserve park'. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology related to animal welfare and environmental management, and work on avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'good for humans' or 'live freely'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement ('Social activist who believe', 'animals also deserves'), article usage ('on a earth', 'in Zoo'), and sentence structure ('I am agree to this'). While you attempt some complex sentences, they often contain errors that can cause the reader to pause. The punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
