Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays we do not have animals kept inside zoos. So we do not need zoos anymore and these zoos should be closed. I strongly agree to this. I intend to discuss the notion and I would like to elaborate my opinion in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, zoos should definitely closed because kept animals inside a cage just to entertain people is not fair to them. To elaborate it, animals also needs to set free since they also wants to be free in the nature with their families. They also deserves freedom and keeping them inside a zoo is not good. To illustrate, if we have kept a bear in the zoo just to entertain people than it is inappropriate for bear because he can enjoy his life in the forest surrounded by his family and there for setting him free is a good idea therefore, we must closed the zoo.
However, some critics argue that zoos can help the government to make profit and for entertainment purpose also. They say that zoos should not closed but I strongly suggest that, zoos should be completely banned. Sometime tourist also hurt them while visiting zoo and this is incorrect. I think as human we need privacy so animals also need privacy for that reason we can not lock them inside the cage since it can hurt their sentiments.
To summarize, individuals are taking steps against government and there are very less animals kept in zoos so, zoos should be closed because these animals have their own life and we have to set them free in order to make them happy and be with their family.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of closing zoos. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments rely on emotional appeals rather than well-supported points. For instance, the mention of animals having 'sentiments' and needing 'privacy' is a relevant concept but lacks depth or logical expansion. The essay tends to over-generalize, and the supporting examples, such as the bear in the forest, are simplistic. To improve, you should focus on providing more nuanced arguments, such as the role of conservation or education, and ensure each point is fully extended with logical reasoning rather than just repeating the core stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To elaborate it' and 'To illustrate' are used, but the transitions between sentences are sometimes awkward, such as 'if we have kept a bear... than it is inappropriate'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between ideas is somewhat disjointed. To reach a higher band, you should work on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that the progression of ideas within and between paragraphs is smoother and more logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple terms like 'good', 'bad', 'hurt', and 'happy'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'kept animals inside a cage' (should be 'keeping animals') and 'we must closed the zoo' (should be 'close'). The range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use less common or more precise academic language. To improve, focus on learning synonyms for common words and practicing collocations related to animal welfare and environmental issues.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with verb forms and sentence structure. Examples include 'zoos should definitely closed' (should be 'be closed'), 'animals also needs to set free' (should be 'need to be set free'), and 'tourist also hurt them' (should be 'tourists'). The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that can occasionally impede the flow of meaning. To improve, you need to focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of passive voice, and ensuring that verb tenses are consistent throughout your writing.
