Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, although the argument is somewhat contradictory. You argue that zoos should be closed, but then include a paragraph discussing the benefits of zoos for sick or elderly animals. This inconsistency weakens your position. While you provide some reasons for your stance, such as animal welfare and disease concerns, the development is limited. The ideas are often stated rather than fully extended with detailed examples or logical reasoning. To improve, ensure your position remains consistent throughout the essay and provide more depth for each supporting point to better meet the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by disjointed sentences and repetitive transitions. You use cohesive devices like 'consequently', 'moreover', and 'hence', but they are often used incorrectly or in a mechanical way that does not improve the flow of the argument. For example, the transition between the argument against zoos and the paragraph acknowledging their benefits is abrupt and confusing. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a single, clear idea would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. You rely on simple words like 'good', 'things', and 'take', which lack the precision required for a higher band score. There are also frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I am certain agree' instead of 'I certainly agree' and 'tack care' instead of 'take care'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to animal welfare and conservation, and focus on using words in their correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'animal die', 'animal does not like'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or fragmented, and there is a lack of complex structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with frequent misuse of full stops and commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that sentences are complete thoughts rather than fragments. Practicing the use of complex sentences with correct conjunctions will also help improve your range.
