Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, people are found to do anything to make themselves delighted irrespective of disturbance to nature and animals. Therefore, there has been number of zoos developed globally for entertainment purpose. However, owing to awareness there is no more need to keep animals in zoos. Consequently, zoos are going to be shutdowned. I completely agree with this notion and the reasons will be elucidated in the ensuing paragraphs.

To commence, animal is the integral part of economic cycle. Henceforth, kept them in a cage is kind of human beings are forcing them to act animals the way they want. Another detrimental fact is, animals freedom is also restricted by certain borders or fencies. Furthermore, it is an undeniable fact that scientists or ecologists can ever predict how much quantity of food an animal require to ingest in a day.

In addition to this, the zoos degrad the accuracy of their hunting modus operandis in centuries or forests. As a result, they forget their natural habits in long run. For instance, The lions always hunt the their predators with help of their omnipresent techniques which provides them a satisfaction. On the other hand, they are being annoyed and teased by visitors as they are kept inside cage in zoos. This indicates, their actual personality of Tiger in zoo becomes unrealistic.

In conclusion, zoos should be banned by governments as it is harming animals in devastating ways such as disturbing their natural habitats, traditional hunting skills, daily meals and freedom.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that zoos restrict freedom and hunting skills, the arguments are not fully extended with sufficient depth or specific, well-explained examples. For instance, the mention of 'economic cycle' is vague and does not clearly support the argument against zoos. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by a clear explanation or a more detailed illustration of how the situation impacts the animals or society. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but the overall development remains somewhat superficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence', 'In addition to this', and 'In conclusion' to link your points. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'Henceforth' to mean 'therefore' or 'consequently'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the economic cycle and animal captivity is not well-established. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the flow of the essay feel more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items like 'elucidated', 'detrimental', and 'omnipresent'. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and collocation, such as 'shutdowned' (should be 'shut down'), 'degrad' (degrade), and 'modus operandis' (which is used incorrectly in this context). Some phrasing is also awkward, such as 'make themselves delighted'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, the frequent errors in word formation and collocation prevent a higher score. Focus on learning the correct context for academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('there has been number of zoos'), incorrect verb forms ('kept them in a cage'), and missing articles. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure is often hindered by these persistent errors. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these slips impacts the overall fluency. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency.
