Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, few people believe zoos are not necessary due to health condition and treatment of wildlife. This makes an opportunity for them to discuss about shutting down the zoos. I believe, zoos are very important for every city as well as growth of young citizens. Alternative options should be encouraged and applied rather than shutting down zoos.
To begin with, zoos are having a negative impact on health of animals due to this government has started shutting down zoos. This has created a scarcity for young children to get familiar with wild life. Since closing of zoos, children usually lack basic knowledge of their surroundings. This has affected their growth. Recently during my visit to a national park, I saw few children shouting and making noises while safari during their encounter with big cats. This made the experience for everyone unpleasant.
Furthermore, zoos plays an important role in the economy of a city. Since it brings opportunities for everyone. Starting from zoo keepers to local vendors as it is a way of gaining their living. Due to the trend they are affected from getting employment.
Moreover, I believe even though caging wild animals is a form of cruelty. I suggest proper infrastructure should be developed by the authorities. Since many countries have found better options to display animals. Either by arranging safari rides or developing huge surroundings for the animals to stay happy and fit. Because of this, it has benefited both the animals as well as the visitors.
To conclude, I highly agree zoos should not be closed as it creates new ways of learning for young children; It also creates opportunities for locals to earn their living. Therefore, new ways should be encouraged by the management and proper infrastructure and animal care should be provided.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of keeping zoos open. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While you mention the educational value for children and economic benefits, the arguments are occasionally under-developed. For example, the claim that closing zoos creates a 'scarcity' for children to learn about wildlife is a bit vague. Additionally, the argument regarding economic impact is brief and lacks specific detail. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by a well-explained example or logical extension of the idea. The conclusion effectively summarizes your position, but the overall depth of the arguments could be improved to better support your stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Moreover' to link your points. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between government action and the scarcity of wildlife knowledge is not fully explained. The use of punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments like 'Since it brings opportunities for everyone.' Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'infrastructure,' 'scarcity,' and 'unpleasant.' However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'zoos are having a negative impact on health of animals' (should be 'the health') and 'gaining their living' (should be 'earning a living'). You also repeat certain words, like 'zoos' and 'children,' which limits the lexical variety. To improve, try to use more synonyms and collocations related to the topic, such as 'conservation efforts,' 'animal welfare,' or 'educational initiatives,' to show a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For instance, there are issues with subject-verb agreement ('zoos plays') and article usage ('during safari'). Some sentences are fragmented or incorrectly punctuated, such as 'Moreover, I believe even though caging wild animals is a form of cruelty.' This is a dependent clause and should be connected to a main clause. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will significantly improve your score.
