Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, many people are enjoying to visit zoos with their family and especially with their kids. Some people think that animals should not kept in zoos, so it should be closed. I strongly disagree with this statement. In this essay I will explore my ideas on zoos benefits.
On the one hand, zoos are attractive place where many visitors and tourists coming to visit the park. It is a major source of income of government. It is a place where people can enjoy their leisure time with family. For example, in Surat "Kakariya Zoo" is located where many family visit there with their children in vacation. In addition, animals can survive in the zoos, because the care is taken by the government and zoo's staff. People can see a variety of animals in one place only and for that some people donate some money for care of animals.
On the other hand, animals stay safe in the zoo, as they can get food and water on time. Furthermore, if they become ill they also get quick and proper treatment from the doctors. They are also staying safe with bad weather condition. For instance, in rainy season they get proper cage for live, and in summer they also get air-cooler. Animal stay comfortable in the zoos. Some animals are disappearing because of urbanisation and external disaster, but if they are in zoos government can survive their species.
To conclude, zoos are really very good place for animals and for people, as in zoos animals get good care and tourists also enjoy and spend their quality of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against closing zoos. The ideas are relevant, focusing on economic benefits, animal welfare, and conservation. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the points about animal care in the second and third paragraphs overlap significantly. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the conservation aspect—such as breeding programs for endangered species—rather than focusing solely on basic needs like food and shelter. The position is consistent throughout, but the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'it should be closed', where 'it' refers to a plural noun ('zoos'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear pronoun reference would enhance the overall cohesion of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'urbanisation', 'endangered', and 'conservation'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'survive their species' (should be 'preserve' or 'conserve') and 'external disaster' (likely meaning 'natural disasters'). The range is somewhat limited, and you rely on simple phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common vocabulary related to the topic of animal welfare and environmental management.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('animals should not kept' instead of 'be kept'), article usage ('in rainy season' instead of 'in the rainy season'), and awkward phrasing ('enjoying to visit' instead of 'enjoy visiting'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent verb forms and correct prepositional usage will help improve your accuracy.
