Student answer (Band 6.0)

A significant number of people believe that zoos are no more required as there is no further need of keeping animals in zoo.

I strongly disagree with this statement, as I personally believe that zoo's are important factor of forming bridge between today's generation and wild lives. The following paragraphs will support my statement of agreement.

When I was a kid, where I stayed with my family was the area surrounded by lush green forests. Encountering less danger animals and birds was a routine for us. We were privileged to see monkeys and langoors playing on tress, we were privileged to see huge Asian elephants crossing road in front of us, and we were lucky to see dancing peacocks in our garden. Therefore, as a child I never realized the importance of zoo. But, with globalization and industrialization, forest were cut rapidly. This started destroying the habitats of birds and animals. With no proper home to live, many species of birds and animals either started getting extinct or reduced in numbers. Therefore, everyday visualization of animal and birds eventually reduced. Now a days, people hardly get to see animals and birds around, as human have taken up there homes for their own convenience. Therefore, coming generation will be not that fortunate enough like us, to get to see animals roaming freely around within their boundaries and limits. Therefore, here zoo comes into picture. Zoo's somehow help the younger people to know the importance and preservation of birds and animals. It also tell us that how our life is affected by their existence.

Having zoo's cannot be considered as unethical, but only condition is that zoo's should be well maintained. Animals and birds kept should be well taken care of. Proper sanitization and hygiene should be the priorities. In addition, proper warmth during winter and adequate sunlight during summer should be maintained.

To conclude, I strongly believe that industrialization has taken the habitat of animals and birds, now artificial homes like zoo's should be maintained, if we really want our next generations to know about the existence of animals and birds. Though, zoo's can never replace the original homes of animals, but if well maintained they can be blessing for animals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have clearly stated your position and maintained it throughout the essay. The response addresses the prompt by arguing for the preservation of zoos as educational tools in the face of habitat loss. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the personal anecdote regarding childhood experiences with nature. However, the argument could be strengthened by exploring other roles of zoos, such as scientific research or conservation breeding programs, to provide a more comprehensive view. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, though the initial statement in the introduction contains a slight contradiction regarding your agreement with the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Therefore,' 'In addition,' and 'To conclude' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'Therefore' to start sentences. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your personal experience from your arguments about animal welfare. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this,' 'these') is used more precisely to connect ideas between sentences rather than relying on simple conjunctions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, using terms like 'globalization,' 'industrialization,' and 'preservation.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'no more required' instead of 'no longer necessary' and 'danger animals' instead of 'dangerous animals.' Additionally, there are consistent issues with pluralization and possessives, such as 'zoo's' (should be 'zoos') and 'human have taken up there homes' (should be 'humans have taken up their homes'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('zoo's is,' 'it also tell us') and article usage ('the younger people'). There are also issues with punctuation, specifically the unnecessary use of apostrophes for plurals. While you attempt complex sentences, the accuracy is inconsistent. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical errors such as pluralization, possessive pronouns ('their' vs 'there'), and subject-verb agreement, which currently detract from the overall fluency of your writing.
