Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that zoos should be closed as there is no need of zoos to keep the animals. I tend to think on the opposite side of the argument as zoos are required to keep the animals safe and to pass the knowledge to the upcoming generation.

The main reason why zoos should not be closed is that it provides knowledge to the visitors. By visiting animal parks visitors know about animal's features and how they are living. Therefore, they can better understand the value of animals and provides contribution to save them. In addition, zoos can preserve the animals which can be seen easily. By visiting zoos children can have the knowledge about different animals and their species. For instance, by visiting city zoo child can know about the penguins and zebras which are hard to find.

Another reason is next generation can see the lost animals. Nowadays because of deforestation many animals are lost. As they do not have natural habitat to live. Therefore, zoos are the only option to save this animals and provide them a safe shelter. Moreover, if all zoos will be closed then in near future there is no any wild animals to see. Zoos are feeding the animals and fulfill all their needs. Furthermore, they always work to increase the number of animals. As a result, animals can live longer and can expand their family.

To conclude, due to many reasons their is argument that zoos should be closed but I believe that it should be opened. There are many reasons as it provides the knowledge about the rare species in the world and people can pass the information about the wild animals to the next generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding education and conservation are relevant, though they are somewhat repetitive. For instance, the idea of 'knowledge' is mentioned in both the introduction and the first body paragraph, and the concept of 'saving animals' is repeated across the second and third paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should aim to develop distinct, separate points rather than restating similar ideas. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but the development of the arguments could be more nuanced to fully explore the complexities of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'The main reason', 'In addition', 'Another reason', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'this animals' (should be 'these animals'). The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow, which supports the logical flow of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'deforestation', 'natural habitat', and 'rare species'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'pass the knowledge' (better: 'impart knowledge' or 'educate') and 'expand their family' (better: 'reproduce' or 'increase their population'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of academic collocations would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the upcoming generation', 'the city zoo'), pluralization ('this animals'), and subject-verb agreement ('there is no any wild animals'). Additionally, there are punctuation and spelling errors, such as 'their is' instead of 'there is'. These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
