Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often believed that animals should not be kept in zoos and zoos should get closed. In my opinion, I agree with this statement. In this essay, I will explain my views regarding same with necessary examples from my insights.
To commence with, carnivore animals like tigers, lions, etcetra are born to live in jungle. To explain, these type of animals feed on fleshes of other animals. It could be dangerous to keep flesh eating animals in a zoo as they can attack on the visitors or workers of the zoo. For example, I personally witnessed a situation last year, when a lion attacked one of the visitor’s child in a zoo and child was traumatized and could not stop crying. Thus, zoo is not a place for these type of animals.
Furthermore, it is brutal and inhuman when employees of zoo force the animals to do things to please the visitors. To elaborate, animals like monkeys are forced to do plays in front of people who come to visit zoo. For example, workers often beat the animals or would not give them a food, if they donot do the same as expected. So, humanity should be our one of priority in this scenario.
In conclusion, although, zoo could be a source of income or amusement for some people, yet, it could be dangerous and brutal at the same time. Hence, I believe that zoos should be banned by legal authorities and animals should be released back to the jungle.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide reasons such as safety concerns and animal welfare, the arguments are relatively simplistic and rely on anecdotal evidence rather than broader analysis. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points by discussing the educational or conservation roles of zoos, or by providing more sophisticated counter-arguments. The essay stays on topic, but the depth of discussion is restricted, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands where more comprehensive development is expected.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where the flow is slightly hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'regarding same' and 'do the same as expected'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. However, the range is somewhat limited and there are several instances of imprecise word choice or non-standard collocations, such as 'flesh eating animals' instead of 'carnivores', 'do plays' instead of 'perform tricks', and 'get closed' instead of 'be closed'. You also rely on basic vocabulary throughout the essay. To improve, focus on using more precise academic terminology and collocations that are appropriate for a formal essay, rather than relying on everyday, conversational phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the jungle', 'a zoo'), pluralization ('these type of animals'), and verb forms ('if they donot do'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas used in the conclusion. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures.
