Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many people believe that there is no need to keep animals in zoos anymore, therefore zoos can be closed. I partly agree with the notion to a great extent. Following are the reasons to support the statement.
The main reason is that animals are a part of this world and they also have the right of freedom to live their lives in the natural surroundings. This can be done by abandoning the zoos that results in developing a sense of humanity in people and liberty to animals. Another reason is disturbance of ecological system. To elaborate, if the creatures are kept away from their naturals habitat, imbalance of eco-system can be witnessed. Additionally, captive animals have to encounter problems like teasing and beating that may results in making them aggressive and impatient.
Nevertheless, old and endangered species can be kept in sanctuaries for their safety from predators and preachers that eventually helps in providing a home to endangered animals and also they can grow in numbers. For examples, there are so many sanctuaries were developed in India such as Jim Corbet National Park that provide a forest environment to species and also help them keeping secure. Moreover, zoos serves as a source of income and knowledge in many countries as plenty of tourists visit zoos and parks to see special species that helps in boosting the economy of the country and knowledge of visitors.
In conclusion, reasons such as freedom and imbalance of eco-system are enough for closing zoos but zoos and sanctuaries as home for old and endangered animals can not be neglected.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all parts of the task, providing a clear position that balances the ethical concerns of animal captivity with the practical benefits of sanctuaries and zoos. Your ideas are relevant, such as the mention of ecological balance and the educational value of zoos. However, some points are slightly under-developed; for instance, the argument regarding 'teasing and beating' is a bit general and could have been supported with more specific evidence or a more nuanced explanation of animal welfare standards. Overall, your position is consistent throughout the essay, and you have provided a balanced view that meets the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'The main reason is', 'Another reason is', 'Additionally', and 'Nevertheless' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed theme. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the contrasting viewpoints.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'ecological system', 'endangered species', and 'sanctuaries'. There are some instances of slightly awkward word choices, such as 'predators and preachers' (likely meant 'poachers') and 'naturals habitat' (should be 'natural habitat'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and word forms. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and ensure that word choices are contextually accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'zoos that results in' (should be 'result'), 'imbalance of eco-system can be witnessed' (missing article), and 'zoos serves' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, punctuation is generally functional but could be more precise. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your arguments. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
