Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding economic impact and educational value are relevant, though they are somewhat under-developed. For instance, the claim that closing zoos would cause a 'financial crash' is an over-generalization that lacks specific evidence or logical depth. While the response covers all parts of the task, the supporting ideas could be more thoroughly explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, ensuring the position remains consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'In addition to that', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and minor mechanical errors in linking. For example, the transition 'Due to this' is used, but the preceding sentence structure is slightly disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'protaction', 'neccessary', 'shout down', 'proptation', 'practicle', 'thories', 'childern'). These errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'biodiversity' and 'extinction', the range is somewhat limited. To improve, the student should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to use more precise collocations to express ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('zoo should be shout down', 'it not only affect economy') and missing articles or incorrect verb forms ('might not able to', 'owning to'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading to ensure that verb tenses and word forms are used correctly in complex sentences.
