Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is the fundamental duty of everyone's to protect the animal. There is one view which says zoos ought to be closed and animals do not need to kept in that. I completely disagree to the given notion and I shall provide the justification in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, There are a plethora of benefits of keeping animals in zoos. Firstly, every animals need different kind of treatments and facilities which can not be done by the individuals, but zoos can provide this very easily as they have very large number of people working with them. Secondly, it costs very high amount of money to take care of animals because they need quality foods as well as medical treatment on a regular basics. All this can be provided by zoos as they get huge amount of funding from the government to maintain the zoos.

Moreover, there are many wild animals like Lion, Tiger, Leopard and etcetera which are harmful for human beings and other species. So to keep everyone's safe it needs to have zoos. Apart from that, some zoos provide the best suitable environment to the animals which helps them to live little bit longer. Lastly, zoos generate some kind of income and it contributes to the country's economy.

To conclude, I believe animals should be kept in zoos so they can get better treatment and food and live the better and quality life. Also, it helps financially as well by generating some income for state or country's economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against closing zoos. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention benefits like animal care and economic contribution, these points are somewhat superficial and lack specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, you mention 'treatments and facilities' without explaining what these entail or how they differ from natural habitats. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations or concrete examples of how zoos contribute to conservation or education, rather than just stating that they provide food and medical care.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as 'do not need to kept in that'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the argument about safety and the argument about economic benefits in the third paragraph feels abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words would help the essay read more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple phrasing, such as 'huge amount of money' and 'best suitable environment'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'every animals need' (should be 'every animal needs') and 'on a regular basics' (should be 'on a regular basis'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'conservation', 'endangered species', 'habitat preservation', or 'financial viability', and ensure you are using collocations correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'It is the fundamental duty of everyone's to protect the animal' (should be 'everyone to protect animals'), 'animals do not need to kept' (should be 'do not need to be kept'), and 'it needs to have zoos' (should be 'it is necessary to have zoos'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, passive voice construction, and article usage prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
