Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is an ongoing debate regarding, there is no longer any necessity to keep animals in zoos, therefore, zoos should be shut down. I firmly agree with the given statement. My inclination is elaborate in the ensuing paragraph and relevant examples.

To begin with, I always find zoo visit really disgusting because I feel very mercy for the animals which have been kept behinds the bars for our own entertainment and selfish purpose. In addition, I believe that everyone has the right to live freely as they want. Then why should the animals can not live that life. Moreover, as a human we does not feel good if someone binds the boundaries for us then animals surely feel stuck in zoo. For instance, elephants and lions are the most beautiful creatures of nature. They mean to wonder freely in a jungle rather than being kept in a small zoo.

However, many individuals believe that zoo is the best place for the children to visit so they can see the various kinds of animals at a single place. In contrast, I believe that we can introduce the various animals to them by watching their images in a digital gadgets such as computer or phone. To illustrate, We have never seen a real dinosaur in the current time because they have become extinct about million years ago. Hence, we can identify it by watching their image.

In conclusion, we do not need to keep animals in zoo because it is the one kind of cruelty. Additionally, animals are the beautiful creation of nature and they deserve to live freely rather than being confined in zoo.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the ethical concerns regarding animal confinement and the alternative of digital education. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument about digital gadgets is a good point but lacks depth regarding the educational value of zoos versus virtual experiences. The response covers all parts of the task, but the arguments could be extended further with more specific examples or nuanced reasoning to reach a higher band. The position is consistent, but the supporting arguments are slightly repetitive in their focus on 'freedom'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', 'However', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Then why should the animals can not live that life'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking between sentences to improve the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'feel very mercy' instead of 'feel pity' or 'compassion', and 'binds the boundaries' which is not a standard collocation. The student uses basic vocabulary throughout, such as 'disgusting', 'beautiful', and 'good'. While the meaning is clear, the range is limited, and there is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated lexical items that would demonstrate a higher level of control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Examples include 'as a human we does not feel good', 'They mean to wonder freely' (should be 'meant to wander'), and 'digital gadgets such as computer or phone' (missing articles). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic grammar rules and sentence construction is required.
