Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, wildlife is important to preserve and safeguard from predators. The governments and animal welfare organizations are regularly making several regulations for their safety. Zoos are shelter homes not only for wild animals such as lions and zebras but also for domestic rare animals to live, for example ducks and sheep. This essay will examine the reasons why I completely disagree with the above given assertion.

One of the major reasons is wildlife education. Moreover, educational instritutions use zoos as educational centres to visit and explain the historical background about many rare breed animals. In addition, students see and learn about nature and wildlife when they visit in the zoos. Furthermore, these places are generating income for the government when visitors visit to explore wild animals as visitors pay entry fees.

Another reason is recreational activities. Zoo always offer several activities not only for students but for parents. Also, these places provide shelters to endangered species such as white tigers and lionsn. Families visit zoo to explain about animals and their benefits for the society to their children. Numerous campaigns and advertisements are launched recently to protect places where animals live.

In conclusion, zoos are necessary to keep animals safe and secure for a long term so that our future generations can enjoy visiting places like these in the future. It is evident that why zoos are important for everyone provided animal keepers follow all the rules and regulations. Safety is a key to preserve this tresure for the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear position of complete disagreement with the statement that zoos should be closed. The writer outlines several supporting reasons, such as wildlife education, generating government income, and providing recreational activities and shelters for endangered species. However, while all parts of the task are addressed, the ideas are somewhat repetitive and lack deep extension. For instance, the mention of domestic rare animals like 'ducks and sheep' in zoos is slightly inaccurate in reality, and the body paragraphs rely on general statements rather than fully elaborated examples or personal experiences. Nevertheless, the main position is sustained throughout. Based on the band descriptors, this performance aligns closely with a Band 6, where the task is addressed with relevant ideas, though some development is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as wildlife education and recreational activities. However, the progression within paragraphs feels a bit mechanical due to repetitive cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is occasionally weak or confusing, such as in the phrase 'when visitors visit to explore wild animals as visitors pay entry fees', which creates redundancy. While the text is generally coherent and easy to follow, the overuse of basic connectors places it firmly in the Band 6 category, where cohesion can sometimes be faulty or repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'contemporary era', 'predators', 'wildlife education', 'endangered species', and 'regulations'. However, there are notable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'educational instritutions' (spelling error), 'rare breed animals' instead of 'rare breeds of animals', and 'lionsn' (typo). Furthermore, phrases like 'Zoo always offer' lack plural agreement. While the writer attempts less common vocabulary, the presence of these inaccuracies and slight unnaturalness in collocations keeps the lexical score at a Band 6 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'This essay will examine the reasons why I completely disagree with the above given assertion.' There is a reasonable attempt at subordination and relative clauses. However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text, including article omissions ('visit in the zoos', 'visit zoo'), subject-verb agreement issues ('Zoo always offer'), and typographical errors ('lionsn'). Although these errors do not severely impede overall communication, they persist across the response, preventing the grammar score from reaching a Band 7. The control of grammar aligns best with the Band 6 descriptor, where some errors are present alongside a mix of structures.
