IELTS Writing Task 2 question

We no longer need to have animals kept in zoos, so zoos should be closed.

Do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Undoubtedly, places like zoos and sanctuaries are constructed to keep the animals safe. In zoos, fauna will be taken care of more as compared to if they were left alone themselves. If the zoos were closed permanently then where would these creatures go and it would also disturbed economy of the country. I disagree with this notion, and the following paragraphs will explain my points of disagreement.

Firstly, if such places are closed, then where would animals go, and who would give them food, water, and medicine? As a result, large animals will eat small animals, consequently this would affect the food chain. If zoos are not present, then how animals could be treated if they have any disease? In MacDonald Zoo, a team of doctors come every quarter to do a regular check-up so that animals would not suffer if they have any ailments.

Furthermore, this shift would also have a negative impact on the economy of the country. There is an entry fee for all the zoos and a country earns profit from this ticket money, which they further use in the development of the zoos itself. McNeil zoo in Montreal reported that every year they earn hundred million dollar by just the entry fees.

In conclusion, zoos should not be closed because it is considered as a safe place for various animals. Regular checkups are conducted from time to time to ensure that they are not suffering from any kind of disease. Moreover, zoos also contribute towards the econony development of the country.
