Student answer (Band 5.5)

Animals play an important role on earth. It is believed by some people that animals should not be kept in zoos and zoos should be permanantly closed. I personally believe that zoos plays crucial role to keep extinct animal alive and also good source of education for childrens. I will explain why zoos should not be closed in upcoming paragraphs.

First and formost, zoos is the only place where those animals can be seen who are an age of extincence. Bengal Tiger, for an example, there number was declining, but Indian government took some strict actions and their numbers improves slowly. Another positive point is that zoos can be seen as an education purpose. Many primary schools organize one day tour in zoos in order to educate pupils. In addition, students can physically see animals and also learn about thier habitats and nature which will enhance thier informtion about animals.

Zoos also plays small role in country's economy. Some country has largest and unique zoos which attracts thousands of tourist and African Jungle safari in Africa is the best example for this. Besides that, zoos also provide some job opportunities which can be benifit to individuals and local authority.

However, animal should not be treat badly and keep them hungry in zoos. They should be feeded regularly and their cage should be according to thier nature habitats. Also, animals health should be cheack on regular basis.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that zoos should not be closed because it provides safe place and food for animals and also benificial from knowledge perspective.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear, consistent position throughout, arguing that zoos should not be closed. The student provides relevant supporting ideas, such as wildlife conservation, educational value for children, and economic benefits. However, some ideas are somewhat under-developed and rely on broad generalizations. For instance, the mention of the Bengal tiger and the African jungle safari are relevant examples, but they lack deeper elaboration. The conclusion reinforces the main viewpoint effectively. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 6.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments, such as conservation, education, and economic benefits. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'First and formost' contain spelling errors, and referencing can be repetitive, such as the frequent overuse of the word 'zoos'. Logical progression between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a higher band score. Overall, the cohesive framework aligns with a Band 6.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'conservation', 'extinction', and 'economy'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'permanantly', 'childrens', 'formost', 'extincence', 'thier', 'informtion', 'benifit', 'treat badly', and 'cheack'. These errors reveal a lack of precision, though they do not severely impede communication because the writer's meaning remains understandable. This vocabulary profile fits the criteria for a Band 5.5 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'It is believed by some people that...' and 'In addition, students can physically see animals and also learn about thier habitats...'. There are frequent grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the essay, including subject-verb agreement issues ('zoos plays', 'Some country has', 'animal should not be treat'), incorrect passive constructions ('They should be feeded'), and persistent spelling mistakes in pronouns and common words. While these errors do not completely obscure the message, they cause noticeable difficulty and prevent the writer from achieving a higher band. The grammar is indicative of a Band 5.0 level.
