Student answer (Band 5.0)

Through different forms of print and digital media, we come accross report that, some belive that keeping the animals in zoo should be ban. The reason behind that is keeping the animals at one particular place keeps the animals bored and frusted. While other belive that, some of the wild spices are very rare and if we need to keep the alive we need to keep them in zoo. After reviewing botht the side, I would be like to be neutral.

Looking at the common aspects, I can put forward that every person don't have evough money to visit zoo. By this, I meant that, every individual can't affort the zoo tickets on regular basis and it won't be possible for them to visit zoo. Moreover, keeping the animals out of the zoo will be a good itea. This hypothesis is bouyed in the fact that humans will get to know more about animals and even the fear from the animals that will also go.

We can't skip the other statement, In addition to this, Some people say keeping animals in zoo is a safer option. By stating that some the animals are way more dangerous that what we think. So, keeping the individuals safe and protected it is better option. For example, some of the rare spices like White tiger, Cheetah and many more this are the animals which are very less in numbers.

To conclude, down the lane, neither animals nor humans will be happy in future with this. I would highly recommend keeping the zoo fees low will be more beneficial for the goverment as they will be getting funds and the humans can also visit there on regular basis.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The candidate attempts to address the prompt by discussing both sides of the zoo debate, stating in the introduction that 'I would be like to be neutral.' However, maintaining a neutral stance throughout a 'Do you agree or disagree?' essay prevents the clear and fully developed position required for higher bands. While the essay touches on reasons against zoos such as animal boredom and cost, and reasons for zoos such as human safety and protecting rare species, the ideas remain largely under-developed. For instance, the argument that 'every person don't have evough money to visit zoo' lacks logical connection to the core debate of animal welfare. The conclusion diverges unexpectedly into a recommendation about lowering zoo fees rather than summarising a stance. Therefore, this response meets the criteria for Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is organized into four paragraphs with a recognizable introduction and conclusion, demonstrating some basic structure. However, overall progression is hindered by confusing transitions and unclear referencing. Phrases like 'Looking at the common aspects' and 'We can't skip the other statement' feel awkward and mechanical. Furthermore, the cohesive devices used are frequently inaccurate, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally broken, such as jumping abruptly from ticket prices to human fear of animals in the second paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails to guide the reader smoothly through the argument, placing the response firmly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'accross' instead of across, 'report' instead of reports, 'belive' instead of believe, 'frusted' instead of frustrated, 'spices' instead of species, 'itea' instead of idea, and 'bouyed' instead of buoyed. The candidate attempts some less common items such as 'hypothesis' and 'protection', but these are misused or misspelled ('bouyed in the fact'). The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, reflecting a standard consistent with Band 4.5, which rounds to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('every person don't have', 'some of the rare spices ... this are the animals') and awkward phrasing like 'I would be like to be neutral.' Punctuation is also problematic, with comma splices and incorrect capitalization. While communication of the general meaning is not entirely obscured, the high frequency of errors across basic and complex structures places this response at Band 4.
