Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is an irrefutable fact that it is believed by certain people that animals should not have their habitat in the sanctuary and the sanctuaries must be closed. I firmly dissent with the notion of eradicating home for animals and the relevant reasons will be discussed in the forthcoming paragraphs.

Admittedly, animals need shelter to surivive unforeseen weather conditions such as snow storms, lightening, heatwaves and floods. This is because certain animals like birds, deer, with fewer reflexes cannot help themsleves to escape bad weather conditions. In addtion to that, there are some species of animals that are getting extinct due to their incapability to escape from predator. For example, sparrows are no longer found in Asia because its eggs has been preyed on by crows.

Another significant reason of conserving wildlife in the zoo is that it aid in keeping the forests safer to explore for the tourists for camping and hiking. To explain it, fierce animals like lion, tiger and chimpanzee might be harmful for the people passing through the jungle. Also, hibernating aniamls move out of the jungle in search of ffod and light in summers

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 189 words. This under-length results in a significant penalty under Task Achievement, as the ideas cannot be fully developed. Although the student attempts to present a position agreeing that zoos should not be closed, the arguments are underdeveloped and cut short. For instance, the point regarding animals needing shelter from weather and predators is introduced but remains superficial. Furthermore, the final paragraph breaks off mid-sentence, leaving the third argument incomplete ('Also, hibernating aniamls move out of the jungle in search of ffod and light in summers'). Because the response is unfinished and well below the required word count, it can only achieve a low band score despite showing a clear initial stance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organizational structure with an introduction and body paragraphs, but the overall coherence is severely disrupted by the incomplete ending. The student attempts to use cohesive devices such as 'Admittedly', 'This is because', and 'In addtion to that', which provide basic logical connections between sentences. However, referencing is occasionally problematic, as seen in the phrase 'because its eggs has been preyed on', where the pronoun lacks a clear singular antecedent. Paragraphing is also disrupted because the second body paragraph is left unfinished and trails off abruptly without a conclusion. These structural and cohesive flaws limit the score to a band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it features noticeable errors and repetition. The student attempts some less common lexical items such as 'irrefutable fact', 'forthcoming paragraphs', and 'hibernating aniamls', but these are undermined by spelling mistakes ('surivive', 'lightening', 'addtion', 'aniamls', 'ffod') and awkward word choices, such as calling zoos a 'sanctuary' for animal habitats. Collocations are occasionally weak, and the lexical range remains limited due to the short length of the text. While the errors do not completely impede overall understanding, their frequency across a short text prevents the score from rising above a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'It is an irrefutable fact that it is believed by certain people that...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are noticeable subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'its eggs has been' instead of 'their eggs have been'. Punctuation and word-form errors are also present, and the response ends with an incomplete sentence fragment. While some basic structures are formed correctly, the frequency of errors in complex formations and the failure to complete the final sentence restrict the grammar score to a band 5.0.
