Student answer (Band 6.5)

Animal welfare has been a major concern for decades . Some people argue that capturing animals from their natural habitat and locking them in a zoo seems a bit cruel and its not necessory and I completely agree with that because we have better alternatives to protect their endangerment and visit them without affecting their freedom.

It is not a hidden truth that Humans have taken over majority of animal habitation while being aware of that fact that every creature on this earth has right to co-exist in nature to maintain it's harmony. However, due to this imbalance of harmony ,many species of animals are going extinct. So to address this concern, people introduced the concept of zoos, which was very restrictive way to accomodate a living being. Having said that, there are better ways to preserve animal kingdom . For instance, in 20th centuary the concept of national parks and Santuaries were introduced which was revolutionary.

Thousands of diferent types of animals and birds are kept safely in the National parks without compromising their innate abilities of survival . They live like they are in a jungle and can feel safe around Humans because of that. In addition to that we can see the animals in their wild behaviour and can learn alot about them . Speaking of learning it is even safe for kids to go to national parks and watch these animals wander around which is really exciting in my opinion.

In conclusion , I believe that all he zoos should be closed and the animals should be kept in National parks instead because it not only makes them feel safe and free but also helps us to co-exist with them without any harm so that we can learn more about them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task, taking a clear and well-developed position that zoos should be closed in favour of national parks. The essay introduces relevant ideas and supports them with logical reasoning, such as the evolution of animal protection concepts in the 20th century and the educational and recreational benefits of national parks for children. While some supporting points could be further expanded with deeper examples, the main position is sustained consistently from the introduction through to the conclusion. The task is fully covered, meeting the requirements of a Band 7 performance under this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. It is divided into four appropriate paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs focusing on human impact and national parks respectively, and a clear concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'However', 'For instance', 'In addition to that', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are minor mechanical referencing issues, such as the pronoun agreement in 'its not necessory' and punctuation lapses around transition markers. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, guiding the reader smoothly through the writer's arguments, earning a solid Band 6.5 to 7.0 range, comfortably placing it at 6.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'co-exist', 'extinct', 'innate abilities', and 'revolutionary'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'necessory' (necessary), 'habitation' (habitats), 'centuary' (century), 'Santuaries' (sanctuaries), and 'diferent' (different). The repetition of terms like 'safe' and 'animals' also limits the lexical score. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the essay from reaching higher bands, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'Some people argue that capturing animals from their natural habitat and locking them in a zoo seems a bit cruel'. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips, including missing apostrophes ('its', 'Humans'), capitalization errors ('Humans'), and run-on structures lacking proper punctuation. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear and they rarely impede communication. The control of grammar is adequate for a Band 6.0 performance.
