Student answer (Band 5.0)

People no longer to have wild animal kept in the zoo as well as so zoo must be closed. I totally disagree with this point. Accroding to me, we need to have kept in zoos.

There are many reasons, first and forest point is protect animals. To explain, nowdays individual becomes more selfish. People are doing hunting day by day. Animals feel safe in the zoos than outside. For exampe. since 1870, that time lots of animals were living. The government did survay and found many specises. After few years, almost all animals species became extinct because people hunted them and sold them, while others hunted them for their own pleauser. The result, now all species not extinct in the presnt which there were hunted in the past decades.

Secondly, the second most important point is exellent knowlegde about animals. For example, If animals keep in the zoos. People and children can be watched and gained information about animals easily. Because there are many wild animals overthere. For example, In 2025, the school students visited in the zoos. They were watching first time animal. They got many prize because they participated in The nation Animal competition. Thus, In the growing stage, children can be lean and animals keep safe.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by taking a clear opposing position that zoos should not be closed. However, the development of ideas is severely limited and repetitive. The minimum length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the essay contains only 219 words, which results in a necessary penalty under this criterion. The arguments regarding animal protection and educational value are supported with examples, but these examples lack clarity and historical/factual accuracy (for instance, the vague reference to the year 1870 and a national animal competition in 2025). Furthermore, the conclusion is extremely brief and merely repeats the main premise without synthesizing the points. Consequently, the ideas remain somewhat under-developed, aligning best with a band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, showing an attempt at logical arrangement. However, the overall progression is disrupted by mechanical and repetitive cohesive devices, such as starting multiple sentences with 'For example' and 'Secondly, the second most important point'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the links between sentences feel abrupt or forced. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow of ideas is disjointed, which hinders the readability of the text. These features are characteristic of a band 5 performance.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by inaccurate word choices and word formation errors, such as 'wild animal kept' instead of 'wild animals kept', 'forest point' instead of 'foremost point', and 'pleauser' instead of 'pleasure'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'extinct' and 'competition', but noticeable errors in collocation and spelling cause difficulty for the reader at times. The lexical range is minimally adequate to convey the basic stance, but the frequency of lexical errors places this performance firmly at band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and prone to frequent structural errors. Attempts at complex sentences are generally faulty, as seen in constructions like 'If animals keep in the zoos' and 'People hunts animals thats why aniamls need zoos'. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, voice, and punctuation throughout the text. These frequent grammatical errors cause significant strain and difficulty for the reader, matching the descriptors for band 4.
