Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position against closing zoos and provides several arguments, such as education, government revenue, employment opportunities, and family leisure. The student outlines their stance in the introduction and follows through with supporting paragraphs. However, some ideas are somewhat simplistic and lack deeper extension or more sophisticated support. For instance, the discussion on government income and employment could be developed with more specific examples or broader socio-economic implications. Overall, all parts of the task are adequately addressed, earning a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion effectively. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as "Firstly," "Secondly," "Furthermore," and "In conclusion." However, referencing and cohesion are at times mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in phrases like "that place must be closed" and "the reasons are discussing in this eassy." Paragraph progression is logical, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to reach higher band levels. This performance fits the Band 6.0 descriptors well.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their message about zoos, education, and employment. There are several attempts to use less common items and topic-specific vocabulary, such as "infrastructure facilities," "unemployment rate," and "entertainment purpose." However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as "jungel" instead of jungle, "exiting" instead of exciting, "specious" instead of species, "maitaining" instead of maintaining, and "studing" instead of studying. These lexical slips and spelling errors indicate a Band 5.5 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing that persist throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("Human beings has", "People says", "animal which keep"), incorrect verb forms ("are discussing", "If the animals moved"), and preposition errors ("get more time with the family"). While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Therefore, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
