Student answer (Band 6.5)
Although it has been considered that zoos need to be shut down completely, I disagree with the statement. Zoos are vital to keep endangered animals safe, and educate children about them.
The very first reason to have zoos is that it supports to keep endangered animals in a safe places. These protected areas can play crucial role to save the species that can be lost due to the threats of predators and human involvement via deforestation and pollution. For example, White Tigers are barely vitnessed in the forests and jungles as they are hunted by humans on large scale, and they can be saved by keeping in preserved areas, not only by providing great supervision, but also by proper feeding. As a result, these kind of places can be safe place for endangered animals.
Apart from that, zoos can assist to teach young ones about the animals, birds and there different species. Educational institutions often arrange school tours for such locations to teach students about the wild animals that cannot be seen regularly, including lions, sea animals or zibbras. Watching these wild life make them curious about the world. While visting the locations, they would get to know about their feeding, their living style and how they can contribute to protect them in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to preserve zoos to provide knowledge about animals and birds to juveniles alongside the entertainment.
In conclusion, there is a still need for all kinds of animals and species in this world to balance the hormony of the the environement. Educating children about them and keeping endangered animals safe from the natural and man-made threats.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position throughout the essay that disagrees with the closure of zoos. The student supports this stance with relevant arguments regarding the preservation of endangered species and the educational value for children. Ideas are extended and supported, such as providing the specific example of White Tigers and detailing how school tours help students learn about animal feeding and living styles. However, there is a minor tendency to over-generalise in the conclusion, and the final paragraph is somewhat fragmented and lacks a fully developed concluding sentence. Overall, the main tenets of the task are well covered, establishing a solid foundation that clearly warrants a successful outcome for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to the first supporting body paragraph on conservation, the second on education, and finally to a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, with transition phrases like 'Apart from that,' and 'In conclusion,' guiding the reader effectively through the text. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately. While referencing and substitution are generally clear, a touch more flexibility in advanced cohesive ties would elevate the writing further, keeping the current structure coherent, logical, and easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common lexical items such as 'endangered animals,' 'deforestation,' and 'educational institutions.' However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that restrict the score. For instance, 'vitnessed' is misspelled, 'hormony' contains a spelling slip, and phrases like 'support to keep' and 'zibbras' reveal inaccuracies in collocation and spelling. Other awkward phrasings such as 'balance the hormony of the the environement' demonstrate that while meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary control lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher band levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional ideas. There is a control over punctuation and some successful complex structures, but errors in grammar persist. Frequent minor issues appear in articles, prepositions within grammatical patterns, and plurals, such as 'in a safe places,' 'play crucial role,' and 'these kind of places.' Additionally, verb form inconsistencies and awkward phrasing like 'there is a still need' affect the overall fluency. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur regularly enough to prevent the writing from achieving a higher degree of grammatical sophistication.
