Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some nature lovers believe that there is no need to keep animals in zoos therefore zoos should be closed. Personally, I accord with above viewpoint and believe that every animal need freedom to grow properly therefore the should be kept in forests rather than keeping in zoos. I will shed light on this topic along with my opinion in the subsequent paragraphs.

To commence with my thoughts that accord with aforementioned belief, the first and foremost point is that natural environment such as forests and open areas helps in overall growth of animals. Moreover, it provide them fresh food, air, and freedome to move anywhere which give them emotional strengthand happiness that improve their health. In contrast, when they are placed in cages they have extremely limited space for movements that make them uncomfortable. For example, if we tie dog with chain they become agressive and shout loudly. As a result animals become more agressive and sometimes attack on visittors. Consequently, all animals have right to freedome similar to humans therefore in order to maintain good health and preserve animal habitats, it is essential to keed animals in natural places like forests.

In conclusion, although it is necessar to protect some wild species which are disappearing due to lack of food, water, and viral diseases, they should not be kept in cages. Authorities should invest some money to safeguard natural habitats such as forests and employ more forest guards and vternity doctors to prote

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear stance that zoos should be closed in favor of natural habitats. However, the length requirement is not met, as the response is slightly under the word count minimum. Furthermore, some ideas are under-developed or lack sufficient extension. For instance, while the writer mentions the benefits of natural environments and the negative effects of cages on animal behavior, the supporting examples—such as comparing zoo animals to a chained dog—are limited and overly simplistic. To reach a higher band, the response would need to be longer and provide more fully elaborated arguments with robust, relevant examples rather than brief generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear position maintained throughout the writing. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, body argument, and conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear. Transition phrases like 'To commence with my thoughts that accord with aforementioned belief' are somewhat awkward and repetitive. Additionally, the abrupt ending of the final sentence indicates a lapse in organizational flow. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next without relying on clunky formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to express basic opinions about animals and zoos. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'subsequent paragraphs', 'emotional strength', and 'safeguard natural habitats', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'freedome', 'agressive', 'visittors', 'keed', 'necessar', and 'vternity'. These errors indicate a lack of precision in spelling and collocations. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire and demonstrate greater accuracy in word formation and spelling to ensure smoother communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing plural markers, article errors, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'every animal need freedom', 'the should be kept', 'attack on visittors', and 'have right to freedome'. Furthermore, attempts at complex structures often contain faults or punctuation lapses. To progress further, the writer must exercise greater control over basic grammatical agreements, verb forms, and articles while increasing the proportion of error-free complex sentences.
