Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that zoos should be closed because their is no need to keep animals in zoos. I disagree with this viewpoint because zoos still should be reamin in exisitence because they provide shelter to endangered species, provide knowledge and employment to people.
First of all, There are number of anmials which can not survive in open forests, are roming and developing in zoos. For example, Bangal Tiger, which is an Indian species of tiger and only left around 80 in whole country.
In zoos they do not only safe from human hunters but also increasing their population. So basically, they are more safe in zoos than any other place.
Another reason could be educational use of zoos.
People can learn and get visual experience of animals and about their behaviour at one place with out risking thier own lives. For instance, a number of tours are organised by educational institues to provide knowldge about animals and individuals tend to learn more form visit rather than a paperbook or a video lesson.
Lastly, there are a significant number of people, who are working at zoos and earning moeny for their families. If zoos get closed, they can lose their jobs. As resut unemployment can increase which would effect the economy in longer term.
In conclusion, although some people believe that their is no need to keep animals at zoos, and they shoud be closed, I believe that zoos have several benefits for society, as they are not only safe place for endangered species but also provide education and employement to people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, arguing against the closure of zoos. The main ideas—providing shelter for endangered species, educational benefits, and employment—are relevant and directly support the writer's stance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. While the point about education is supported with a specific example of school tours, the points regarding endangered species and economic impact are slightly under-developed and lack extended elaboration. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to fully develop all ideas with deeper explanations and more comprehensive supporting examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each main body paragraph focusing on a distinct benefit of zoos. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'First of all,' 'Another reason,' and 'Lastly,' to guide the reader through the argument. However, some referencing is occasionally mechanical, and the links between sentences could be smoother to avoid a repetitive flow. To improve further, the writer should integrate a wider variety of advanced cohesive features and ensure seamless transitions between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating central ideas about animal protection and education. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'endangered species' and 'economic impact,' but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'reamin' instead of remain, 'exisitence' instead of existence, 'roming' instead of roaming, 'Bangal' instead of Bengal, 'knowldge' instead of knowledge, and 'employement' instead of employment. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict the score. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand the lexical range and improve spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully structuring multi-clause sentences such as 'People can learn and get visual experience of animals and about their behaviour at one place with out risking thier own lives.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('anmials', 'number of tours'), incorrect prepositions ('form visit rather than'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('their is no need'). However, these errors rarely impede communication. To move up to the next band, the writer should increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and ensure greater accuracy in basic grammatical structures and punctuation.
