Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the world of industrilization and commericialization, where lack of natural habitats are available for all sorts of creatures. But if we provide the safe environement to live all animals, we will not need to open zoos. While I think that the necessity of zoos is required for educational purpose, so it should be open, I strongly agree that all animals should be lived in the natural areas.

To begin with, the improtance of the zoos for society because these places serve the informations of animals lifestyles and history in a safe environment. These artificial places created a suitable living conditions for all types of natural predators according their livestyles, using advanced technology and under the guidence of zoological experts. In addition, collecting all historical data through researchs and maintaining a healthy routine with considering their diets, which is beneficial for visitors to have real-life experience and enhance their knowledges. For instance, the National Animal park of Toronto, where all marine, and rare animals keep in one place, therefore mostly students visit for their educational trip and gain the knowledge.

However, having safe places, such as forests and wildlife conservational parks for animals are not require to keep in zoos. Firstly, in the natural places, Animals are better able to survive and behave naturally when they are in an environment that suits their needs. For example, wild animals can find their own food, protect themselves, and live with other animals of their species in the wild. Keeping them in zoos or other artificial environments can make them stressed and unhappy. Therefore, protecting natural areas is important for the well-being and survival of animals.

In conclusion, although having animals in zoos has best source of informations, I agree that providing natural safe environment for living these animals better for themselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting a clear position regarding whether zoos should be closed, though some aspects are developed more fully than others. The writer acknowledges the educational benefits of zoos in the second paragraph, noting how they serve to inform society about animal lifestyles under expert guidance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, with general statements such as 'collecting all historical data through researchs' rather than deep elaboration. In the third paragraph, the argument for natural habitats is presented, pointing out that animals behave more naturally in the wild, which supports their well-being. While the position is maintained throughout, certain supporting points lack extension and rely on over-generalised claims. Overall, the task is addressed with relevant ideas, placing the response firmly at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the argument into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the discussion on the educational value of zoos from the benefits of natural habitats. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with transitional phrases like 'To begin with' and 'However' used rather rigidly. Additionally, referencing and pronoun use are not always entirely clear, as seen in sentences like 'While I think that the necessity of zoos is required for educational purpose, so it should be open,' where pronoun agreement and logical flow are slightly disjointed. Information flows with some organization, but the progression could be smoother to reach a higher level of cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'commericialization', 'zoological experts', and 'wildlife conservational parks'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('industrilization', 'environement', 'improtance', 'informations', 'knowledges', 'guidence', 'researchs') and awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'safe environement to live all animals' and 'animals are better able to survive'. Despite these inaccuracies and spelling slips, the meaning remains mostly clear and communication is not severely impeded. To improve, the student needs to enhance precision in word formation and spelling while expanding their repertoire of sophisticated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures such as concessive clauses starting with 'While' and 'Although'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Issues include errors in prepositions and articles, such as 'in natural places' instead of 'in natural environments', and subject-verb agreement problems like 'Animals are better able' following fragmented introductory clauses. There are also structural awkwardnesses in clauses such as 'where lack of natural habitats are available' and 'all animals should be lived in the natural areas'. These errors in grammar and sentence patterns persist, though they rarely impede overall communication.
