Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 202 words. While a position is stated indicating full agreement that zoos should remain open for protecting wildlife and rare species, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of visiting the Brampton zoo provides a personal anecdote, but it is not sufficiently extended or supported with deeper reasoning. The arguments regarding future research and education are briefly touched upon in the third and fourth paragraphs, but they lack the depth and expansion expected for a fully realized academic essay. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to expand significantly on each point with well-developed supporting arguments and ensure the length requirement is fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization present in the text, moving from an introduction to personal experience, reasoning, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and paragraphing is informal and disrupted by labeling headers such as 'INTRODUCTION-'. Cohesive devices are generally inadequate, repetitive, or inaccurate, relying heavily on simple connectors like 'and' or repetitive phrasing such as 'according to my opinion'. Reference pronouns are sometimes unclear, which disrupts the flow of the text. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer needs to utilize a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices, establish clear logical links between sentences, and organize the essay into standard, properly structured paragraphs without informal labels.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, which strains the reader's comprehension at times. There are noticeable lexical errors throughout the text, including spelling errors such as 'accourding', 'differnt', 'bramprton', 'experice', 'diifernt', 'reserches', 'conculision', 'diffnataly', 'entertament', and 'vsit'. Word choice and word formation are also frequently inaccurate, such as using 'kept open ur zoo' or 'strongly faith'. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic opinion, but frequent spelling and word-choice errors prevent the response from achieving a higher score. To improve lexical resource, the student should expand their working vocabulary, learn correct word forms, and pay closer attention to spelling and standard collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, relying primarily on simple sentence structures and faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, plurals, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of these errors include 'we really need our animals kept in zoo', 'i want share of experince', 'saw lots of species that you never sawn on naturaly', and 'zoo is perfect places to kept or animals safely and healty'. Punctuation is also weak, with missing commas and run-on sentences. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must demonstrate a better control of basic grammar, improve sentence structures, and reduce the frequency of errors across verbs, articles, and word forms.
