Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the contemporary world, animal zoos have become a commonly witnessed phenomena. It is presented for consideration that zoos should be closed as animals are no longer to be kept in there. In my opinion, this is not a welcome suggestion, and its implementation may lead to several negative consequences.

One major reason why I do not support this view is that zoos play an indispensable role in protection of endangered species of animals. This is mainly because natural habitat to such endangered species is no longer suitable for survival due to exploitation of forests. As a result, zoos provide protection to flora and fauna by keeping the endangered animals in check. For example, a study which took place in India around 2004 depicts that because of zoos the most endangered species of white tigers was revived in over a year.

Moreover, zoos are very imperative for educational purposes. They have proven out to be the best source of knowledge among students. The Guardian refers to zoos as Ocean of knowledge. The main reason for this is that students and adults are less likely to study about near extinction animals but observing them at a zoo allow individuals to broaden their knowledge. Furthermore, public zoos helps raising funds which allows government to be more considerate towards the betterment of nature.

In conclusion, zoos have become one of the most important commodity on the earth and closing zoos might bear adverse consequences which are infavourable for both nature and animals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree with closing zoos, and the conclusion restates this view. You give two relevant reasons—protecting endangered species and educating the public—and include examples, so the response addresses the task. However, the support is uneven. The white-tiger example is specific but needs clearer explanation or reliable context, while the education point is asserted rather than illustrated with a concrete example. The claim that zoos help governments improve nature is also not fully explained. The response is one word below the required minimum, so ensure you meet the stated length. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a relevant, credible example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Its progression is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “One major reason,” “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. This logical organisation is a strength. Some connections between claims could be clearer, however. For instance, the move from students learning at zoos to public zoos raising funds for governments introduces a related but insufficiently connected point. The reference to “The Guardian” also interrupts the flow because its relevance is not explained. Use transitions that show how each supporting detail develops the paragraph’s main idea, and make references explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary and attempt less common expressions, including “indispensable,” “endangered species,” “exploitation,” and “adverse consequences.” These choices help communicate the topic and your position. However, some ambitious wording is inaccurate or unnatural: “commonly witnessed phenomena,” “protection to flora and fauna,” and “very imperative” do not fit naturally in context. There are also word-form and spelling issues, such as “infavourable,” and “commodity” is not an appropriate description of zoos. Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than elevated wording for its own sake. For example, use “commonly seen” and “play an important role in protecting” to express your ideas more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause (“This is mainly because…”) and a result clause (“As a result…”). Most sentences remain understandable, and the errors do not generally obstruct your meaning. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, particularly with agreement and articles: “observing them at a zoo allow individuals” should be “allows,” and “public zoos helps” should be “public zoos help.” There are also awkward grammatical patterns in “in protection of endangered species” and “natural habitat to such endangered species.” Check subject–verb agreement, singular and plural forms, and article use during revision. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the control already shown.
