Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this period of modernity, many people are against of keeping animals in the zoos. In my opinion, I strongly disagree with this notion and my opinion will be discussed in further paragraphs with a suitable conclusion.

Supporting my disagreement to the given statement, I firmly believe that animals are a part of our ecosystem and they should be treated same as everyone else. There are plethora of widlife species which are on the verge of extinction. To combat this issue, we should promote and develop more zoos to protect these animals. To cite an example, in India, Ambani family have developed one kind of such habitat named Vantra to preserve and protect several endangared species. In addition, well maintained zoos attracts all aged groups to visit them, which in turn generates revenue for the country. For instance, African government gets a huge amount of funds from the visit to their wildlife sanctuaries which they utilised for the welfare of the society.

Explaining some of the another supporting points in favour of this statement, it is true that a lot of resources and money is required to maintain these zoos. Despite of this, we will definitely see a surge in the development of zoos in the near future. Moving further, it is pertinent to mention that most of the wildlife creatures plays an important role in the ecosystem starting from the insects to the lions. For an example, the decline in the population of different insects will lead to less or even no pollination process. Furthermore, if zoos are closed or destroyed then there would be an imbalance in the whole ecosystem. As a consequence, there will be predominance of one species on the planent which can lead to harmful impact to the whole society.

In conclusion, the government as well as non profit organisations should implement new strategies in favour of developing more and more zoos. I believe that aforementioned points are strongly supporting my view point.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly disagree with closing zoos, and the conclusion returns to the idea of developing them. You give relevant reasons, including protecting endangered species, educating or attracting visitors, and the ecological consequences of species decline. The Vantra example also helps make the conservation point concrete. However, some ideas are not fully explained: the link between zoo visits and national revenue is asserted rather than shown, and the claim that closing zoos would cause one species to dominate is unclear. The paragraph beginning “Explaining some of the another supporting points” also introduces the cost of zoos without explaining how that point supports your position. Clarifying these links and developing each example would make the response more complete and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main position is easy to follow. Ideas generally progress from conservation to the wider ecological role of animals. You also use linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Furthermore” and “As a consequence.” At times, however, these transitions feel mechanical or do not accurately signal the relationship between ideas. For example, “Despite of this” is followed by a prediction about more zoos, but the contrast is not clearly established; the point about maintenance costs is also left disconnected from your argument. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph’s central claim explicit and using references and transitions only when their logical relationship is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “verge of extinction,” “habitat,” “preserve,” “pollination” and “ecosystem.” These choices help communicate the subject and show attempts to use less common language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, such as “against of keeping,” “all aged groups,” “a huge amount of funds from the visit,” and “predominance of one species.” There are also spelling errors in “widlife,” “endangared” and “planent.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Focus on learning common word partnerships and checking spelling, and choose simpler phrasing when a more elaborate expression is uncertain.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional and cause-and-effect sentences such as “if zoos are closed or destroyed then there would be an imbalance” and “the decline … will lead to less or even no pollination.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain across the response. Examples include missing articles or incorrect article use in “treated same as everyone else” and “in the ecosystem,” subject–verb agreement in “zoos attracts” and “creatures plays,” and the construction “a lot of resources and money is required.” The sentence beginning “Explaining some of the another supporting points” is also structurally awkward. Review agreement, articles and sentence openings, then proofread complex sentences to ensure their clauses are correctly formed.
