Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, people make the source of entertainment by watching animals in cage. We do not want animals in zoos and should be banned. I completely agree with this statement because Animals should also have their freedom.

Firstly, putting Animals from forests to zoos make them feel uncomfortable and depressed. For example, In Kerala, One man took the permission from the government to put all bears to the zoos for the fun. Sadly, government also allowed him. As a result, those bears who were in zoos got depressed and weak within week because they change their environment in which they used to live.

Secondly, people who came to zoo to watch animals. They are not aware about how to treat Animals and what to give them to eat. For instance, In National park zoo in India, One children gives the expire bread to the bear. Consequently, bear got dead. Individuals having no clue of what products should give to the animals which leads to damage health of Animals. Moreover, I saw a video on social media one man was beating the animals just because he was feeling good by controlling on them. Due to this, it also impacts on others which is harmful for Animals.

In conclusion, although visting zoos is fun. Spending time with Animals. However, Animals are not feeling safe with humans. Their inconvenient way to treat them. In addition, giving bad quality of products which effexts on their health. By viewing all this, zoos should be closed so that Animals can live their own life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that zoos should close, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons—animals’ distress in captivity and risks from visitors’ treatment. The examples about bears becoming weak and a bear being fed unsuitable bread help illustrate these points. However, some support is unclear or not fully explained: the Kerala example’s claim that one person received permission to place all bears in zoos is difficult to follow, and the social-media video is mentioned without explaining its wider significance. The conclusion repeats your view but introduces incomplete ideas about visiting zoos being fun and animals’ safety. Develop each example more clearly and connect it directly to why closure is preferable to improved zoo management.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two reason-based body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “For example” and “Consequently” make the main progression easy to identify. However, some links are mechanical, and a few sentences do not connect smoothly: “Secondly, people who came to zoo to watch animals. They are not aware…” is separated into an incomplete opening and a follow-up, while the conclusion shifts abruptly between ideas. References such as “it” in “it also impacts on others” are unclear. To strengthen cohesion, combine closely related points, make pronoun references explicit, and use transitions that show the relationship between ideas rather than relying mainly on formulaic markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main concerns, including “freedom,” “depressed,” “environment,” and “damage health.” There are also attempts to express specific ideas about captivity and animal welfare. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes meaning less clear. For example, “make the source of entertainment” and “controlling on them” are not natural expressions, while “products” is vague when referring to food for animals. Spelling and word-form errors such as “visting” and “effexts” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range of phrases for animal welfare and visitor behaviour, and check that each word fits its context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures with “because,” “as a result” and “which.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but sentence construction and grammatical control are inconsistent. For instance, “people who came to zoo to watch animals” is a fragment, and “putting Animals from forests to zoos make them feel” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Articles and plural forms are also sometimes missing or inconsistent, as in “within week” and “one children.” The conclusion contains several fragments, including “Spending time with Animals.” Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles and punctuation when editing.
