Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate regarding shut down of zoos as the animals have to give up on their right of living freely in the nature, and to survive in a small cage for the rest of their lives. As per my perspective, there are valid arguments on both sides and I partly agree. I will further elaborate the reasons with relevant examples to validate my point.

To begin with the brighter side of this argument, living in a zoo can increase survival rates among animals. Firstly, they do not have to rely on hunting for food. As per zoo's policy, animals are fed according to their dietary requirements and nutritional needs.Although, some animals are natural predators but somedays it can be difficult for them to find a prey in wild. Secondly, it can be significatly difficult for these living beings to find a shelter, mostly in harsh weather conditions. However, zoo can provide everything without compromising.

While on the other hand, I believe our planet equally belongs to wild as much it does to us. In order to entertain humans, separating them for nature is against our ethics. For instance, younger ones of animals are brought to zoo, so they can adapt the environment easily. However, this is not a right thing,to distance them from their parents. Additionally, they need to get trained for being well-behaved in the zoo and various trainner shows cruelty towards them. All these deeds contributes as an utmost reason of going against nature's rules.

Overall, I believe both views have their own pros and cons. The best way is to make strict policies by government that every zoo owner's should follow. They should be providing a massive space for animals to live around, which likely resemble wild life.Other than that, to be polite and gentle with them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the question and present a partly agreeing position, then consider both animal welfare and the benefits of zoo care. The points about reliable food and shelter are relevant, as are your concerns about separating young animals from their parents and cruelty in training shows. However, the position is not fully resolved: the conclusion recommends stricter rules and larger enclosures rather than explaining whether zoos should ultimately remain open or close. Some ideas also need fuller support—for example, explain when zoo care improves survival and how regulation would address the harms you identify. A more explicit final judgement, supported by developed examples, would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To begin with” and “While on the other hand” helps readers follow the shift between benefits and drawbacks, and the main ideas are generally presented in a logical order. This already gives the essay a coherent progression. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly the repeated “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Additionally,” and the contrast marker “While on the other hand” is redundant. The conclusion also moves quickly from weighing both sides to proposing policies without clearly connecting that solution to your stated partial agreement. Use more natural transitions and make the relationship between each example and your position explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “survival rates,” “dietary requirements,” “harsh weather conditions,” and “cruelty,” which helps communicate the main arguments. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “valid arguments on both sides.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “shut down of zoos,” “give up on their right,” “separating them for nature,” and “trainner shows.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “significatly” and “contributes” also reduce precision. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they limit flexibility and naturalness. Focus on accurate collocations and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a conditional idea (“Although some animals are natural predators…”) and a relative clause (“which likely resemble wild life”). The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “animals have to give up on their right of living freely” has an awkward grammatical pattern, while “every zoo owner's should follow” misuses the possessive form and agreement. There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation problems, such as missing spaces after full stops and the fragment “Other than that, to be polite and gentle with them.” Work on complete sentence construction, articles and agreement, and proofread punctuation. More accurate control of these structures would make your varied sentences clearer.
