Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is no longer need of housing for animals so zoos should be closed. I strongly disagree with the statement because zoos are source of entertainment and knowledge as well. This essay will discuss reasons for my opinion in the following paragraphs.

One of the primary reasons for this why it should not be closed is that animals housing is crucial for enjoyment. Moreover, children love to go there and enjoy after seeing them and it also foster the economy of country. Many young children prefer to play with some less dangerous animals such as peacock, cat and camel. For example, in some countries teenagers usually take part in the horse riding competitions in the zoo after paying for tickets and want to win the race. So, it is necessary to keep animals safe in their houses and these should be opened for fun activity.

Another significant reason is that it is also beneficial for educational purpose. Furthermore, many researchers are conducting different types of researches on the animals to assess variety of factors such as about their reproductive cycle, eating habits and sleep cycle. In addition to this, most students have to visit zoo area for their educational projects. For instance, some developing countries are trying to make more zoos to enhance knowledge about inhabitants. Thus, for the future researches animals should be kept safe in their houses.

In conclusion, although animals should remain independent but it is also advantageous to keep animals in their house for leisure activities and for educational purposes. Therefor, zoos should not be closed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you disagree with closing zoos, and you give two relevant reasons—recreation and education/research. The examples about children visiting and researchers studying animal behaviour help address the task. However, the argument is only partly developed. The claim that zoos “foster the economy” is not explained, and the horse-riding example does not clearly show why animals need to be kept in zoos. More importantly, the conclusion briefly concedes that animals “should remain independent,” but you do not explain how this fits with your support for keeping them in zoos. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and address animal welfare directly to make your response more complete and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally stay focused, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical or does not show the relationship between ideas precisely. For example, “Furthermore” and “In addition to this” introduce points that could be connected more explicitly to the educational argument. The reference in “this why it should not be closed” is also unclear, and the conclusion’s contrast about animals remaining independent is not linked to the main position. Use transitions more selectively and make references and connections between claims explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “reproductive cycle,” “eating habits,” “researchers,” and “educational projects,” which helps communicate your main ideas. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, such as “animals housing,” “source of entertainment,” “researches,” and “inhabitants.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less precise. There is also repetition of “animals,” “houses,” and “zoos,” with limited variation. Aim to learn common word partnerships and use precise terms for animal care and conservation; for example, distinguish between a zoo as a facility and an animal’s habitat. This would make your vocabulary more natural and effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “although,” and “after,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms occur often enough to affect clarity. Examples include “There is no longer need” (missing an article), “it also foster” (subject–verb agreement), and “One of the primary reasons for this why” (faulty clause construction). The final sentence of the conclusion also begins with “Therefor,” which disrupts the sentence. Practise accurate article use, agreement, and complete clause patterns, then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb. More reliable control of these forms would strengthen your varied sentence attempts.
