Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people think that animals should not be kept in zoos anymore, so zoos should be closed. I am partially agree with the statement, I will explain all the relevent ideas in the upcoming paragraphs.
First of all, Some people believe that, animals should be free in jungles or forest rather than keeping them in a zoo. They feel like animals should have freedom as well and we do not need to keep them in the cage in a zoo. They do not belong there, so zoos should be closed for good. Secondly, They feel that government waste lots of money on the zoos while keeping all the animals in zoos. For example, they have to hire people to take care of them and feed them. They should invest this money in children hospitals or donation to the hospitals.
On the other hand, keeping animals in zoos is a source of income for many people including government. For example, when people visiting a zoo with their kids they have to pay a entry fee, which is a source of revenure for government. Moreover, there are so many people work in zoos to take care of all the animals and present them in front of the public.
Moreover, some animals only found in zoos, this is very good idea to take your kids for picnic or they have a chance to explore different kid of animals.
I believe that, not all zoos should be closed. I agree that animals should be free in jungles rather than keeping them in a cage. However, not all the zoos should be closed, animal welfare team should make some rules and regulations for zoos how to treat animals and how many animals they can keep in one zoo.
In conclusion, I would like to say that keeping animals in zoos is good for animals and humans as well. There should be strict laws enforcement on how to treat animals in zoos.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is that you partly disagree with closing zoos, and you return to this view in the final body paragraph by supporting animal freedom while proposing rules for zoos. You also address arguments on both sides, including animal freedom, public spending, income, employment and children’s opportunities to see animals. This covers the task, but some points are asserted rather than explained: for example, the claim that zoos are a source of income is not weighed against their costs, and the educational or conservation value of zoos is not clearly developed. The conclusion also says zoos are “good for animals and humans,” which is broader than your earlier, more qualified position. Explain how your examples support your stance and keep that stance consistent.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, arguments against zoos, arguments in favour, your own position and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a recognisable focus, and signposts such as “First of all,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated “Moreover” and “For example” rather than links that show how one point develops from another. Some references are also unclear, as in “they have a chance to explore,” where the subject could be the children or the animals. Build clearer links between claims and explanations, and use pronouns with unmistakable referents.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “freedom,” “source of income,” “entry fee,” “animal welfare” and “rules and regulations.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms. However, several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision: “relevent ideas,” “revenure,” “a entry fee,” and “different kid of animals” are examples. Phrases such as “keeping them in the cage” and “present them in front of the public” are understandable but not natural in this context. Aim for accurate, conventional combinations and check spelling; more precise terms for conservation, animal care and public funding would also help you express the argument more flexibly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and clauses beginning with “when” and “while.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I am partially agree” has an incorrect verb form, and “when people visiting a zoo” needs a finite verb. There are also errors with articles and agreement, as in “a entry fee” and “there are so many people work in zoos.” Commas sometimes join or interrupt clauses awkwardly, such as in the opening sentence. Practise forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation while retaining your attempts at varied sentence structures.
