Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You state a clear position—“I firmly agree”—and give two relevant lines of reasoning: that zoos can protect animals and that captivity limits their exposure to natural environments. However, the response only minimally develops these ideas. Claims such as “zoos in animal safe” and “Wildlife not growth” are difficult to interpret, and there are no specific examples or explanations showing why zoos should close despite the stated benefits of safety and healthy food. The conclusion also introduces a call for closure without resolving this tension. The response is 162 words, below the required 250, which leaves the task substantially under-addressed. To strengthen your answer, explain each reason clearly, support it with a relevant example, and directly connect your arguments to whether all zoos should close.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “The first and foremost argument” and “The second argument,” and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through your answer. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow because several sentences repeat or contradict one another, and the links between claims are unclear. For example, the first body paragraph says zoos keep animals safe, while the next argues that animals should not be kept in zoos, but the relationship between these points is not explained. Some transitions are also awkward, and “Therefore” runs directly into the following sentence. Use one main idea per paragraph, explain how each sentence supports it, and use linking expressions only where they clarify the logic.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt some topic-related vocabulary, including “conservation,” “ecosystem,” “wildlife,” and “environment,” and use signposting phrases such as “To conclude.” This shows an effort to address the subject with relevant language. However, vocabulary is repetitive and often used in unclear or unnatural combinations, such as “zoos in animal safe,” “animal more growth,” and “open the animal.” Spelling errors, including “elaiborated,” “enviroment,” and “Becase,” also reduce clarity. Build a small set of accurate phrases for discussing animal welfare and captivity, such as “protect endangered species” and “restrict natural behaviour,” and check spelling and collocations. More precise wording would make your ideas easier to understand without relying on repeated references to animals and zoos.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

You use a few basic sentence patterns and attempt to connect ideas with clauses, as in “because animals…” and “whether animals kept in zoos.” However, many sentences are incomplete or lack the grammatical elements needed to express a clear thought. For example, “In the modern era, park conservation most important a ecosystem” has no clear verb, while “It is ongoing debate whether animals kept in zoos” is missing articles and a complete clause. Subject–verb agreement and sentence construction are also unreliable in phrases such as “Wildlife not growth.” Most sentences therefore require substantial grammatical repair, and the range of structures remains very limited. Practise complete subject–verb sentences first, then add accurate clauses with “because,” “although,” and “while.”
