Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the table’s subject and report several age-group figures, including the peak for 16–20-year-olds and the equal values for men and women aged 26–30. However, the response only minimally summarises the data: the overview is unclear and contradictory, saying both younger and older people spend the most time online, while the table shows the 16–20 group has the highest figures and the 51+ group the lowest. Several details are inaccurate: the table gives hours, not percentages, and for ages 31–50 it shows 3 hours for males and 4 for females, not the figures stated. The claims about entertainment, social media and a “bad habit” are unsupported. The response is 117 words, below the 150-word minimum. Include an accurate overview and compare the main pattern across all age groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, an overview-like section and sentences reporting figures. Some linking expressions, such as “On the other hand” and “From 21-25,” help signal movement between points. However, the ideas do not progress in a clear, logical way: the overview makes conflicting claims, and the discussion jumps from age groups to unsupported comments about entertainment and social media. Paragraphing is limited, and several transitions do not express the relationship between the data accurately. For example, “On the other hand” introduces the highest age-group figures rather than a clear contrast. Group the figures into a logical sequence, use a separate overview, and connect comparisons directly to the relevant age groups.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to identify the topic and report basic comparisons, using terms such as “average hours,” “age groups,” “males” and “females.” However, the range is limited and repetitive, especially through repeated use of “internet” and “spent.” Some word choices are imprecise or unsuitable for a formal data summary: “have more interest in internet” does not clearly describe the figures, and “which is bad habit” adds an unsupported judgement. “Percentage” is also inaccurate because the table reports hours. Aim for precise reporting language such as “recorded,” “spent online” and “the figure for,” and use “hours” consistently. Avoid introducing claims about activities or opinions that the table does not provide.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use mostly simple sentence patterns, and the reader can understand the general topic and several comparisons. There are also attempts to combine ideas, for example, “On the other hand 16 to 20 years old people have more interest in internet.” However, errors in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction are frequent enough to make parts awkward or unclear. Examples include “younger people spent most of his time,” “both male and females percentage same,” and “Both younger and older peoples.” The sentence beginning “From the 11-15 years old” is also not formed naturally. Practise complete comparative sentences with consistent subjects and verbs, such as “Males aged 11–15 spent eight hours online, compared with six hours for females.”
